  1. Kurt, This should be an EZ one then Download Attachment: IMG_0132.JPG 216.66 KB The over riding thought I had was "What type of Biz could I start up to stay here?" So, what brought you to the islands and I ASSUME you chose to leave to study brick and lime in Chicago. By the way I usually take a day to wander in the wind downtown when I come up to visit my sister in South Bend.
  2. The first is Tortola and the second is Half Moon(Holland America's Island). The bay is --- Ya got me. It was just lots of fun and snorkeling. Norm Thank you for the input. Your wisdom also hits the mark. I identified a condition --cracks Listed a reason for concern --not normal, could indicate a significant problem - breached shell Gave direction -- Call the pool guy who know his stuff! Less is more -- I kept my mouth (keyboard) shut after that. I know what I know and thats all.
  3. Donald, Mike and Mark, Thank you for the timely response. Go with your gut seems to be a truth here. It is good however to recieve input on an unusual item. Download Attachment: A perfect pool.JPG 53.48 KB Download Attachment: Christmas Card.JPG 9.53 KB
  4. Calling on Norm or ??? This morning's inspection included a gunite pool. I am seeking counsel on two cracks in the surface of the pool. One is vertical in the spa and the other is in the top of a step. The vertical spa crack is aprox. 3/16 wide and runs from the bottom of the coping down thru the seat and to the bottom. The crack in the step is less than an eight in width but it is 12 foot long. I typically do not see cracks of this size. Insight any one? Download Attachment: crack in steps.JPG 75.54 KB
  5. Me and mine. As a matter of fact I'm in Fort Lauderdale as I type. A little recon and a week on the water are ahead.[^][^]
  6. Four or five years ago there was a show called "how's that work". One segment was on "disposers". The assertion was ony one company in the US manufactured disposers.
  7. As paint is exposed to weather, the film deteriorates, and the pigment held in the paint coating is gradually released. Most paints contain Titanium Dioxide (a white pigment) as the primary pigment to provide hiding. Chalking is the appearance of this white pigment on the surface. It is a very difficult surface to paint. Oil based primers and paints will absorb the Titanium Dioxide and adhere well to the substrate. Some latex primers and coatings also adhere well, but many formulations of latex will not adhere without a primer. Scott Patterson MS ASHI Slim, You're taking a perfectly good rant and turning it into a techie thing. The Mud is the killer to me. I have it and painting to thank for carpal tunnel...again
  8. And it was just a 300K shack!

  13. Brian, No more photos or those folks from out west will be a-copying us. Just how did you wear out all those jeans? Do you remember the Trading Spaces show where Heldi (NY girl) stapled 1000s of plastic flowers on a bathroom wall? This was in a so called "upper class" area close to Scott P's house. Now that belonged in a trailer. Charlie Sessums The popular Southern Designer
  14. I'll try "I made mention of something else. Any ideas?" for 200 Rob. What is id="blue">Inadequate ventilation?
  15. I don't have the specific manufacturers name on hand but I remember reading shingles installed on pitches less than 4/12 was allowed if a double layer of felt is installed. The ice shield seems like a better solution. A little copper would look "lovely" there.
  16. Like Paul, It is outside of the scope of the inspection. However I do talk to my client about a lot of things that don't make the report. In this case I would provide additional information. If these systems do not bond to the same ground as the electrical system it can lead to problems. Differing voltage (from a lightning strike near by) will travel the separate bonding conductors and destroy the electrical equip. I try to provide my client with all the information that I have picked up, learned or received from this board.
  17. Pex does come in several colors. It is a type of product. There are several manufacturers. Red and blue are common colors for the obvious reason.[:-magnify Charlie Sessums www.alphainspection.com
  18. Paul, For some reason the entrance was locked! We did come equipped. I just wondered if Kurt "surfed" his way to the beach to meet up with the locals. We had a wonderful dinner with friends as the sun was setting. Now, who was that mystery fat man? Not Brian. Charlie Looking for sunny FL
  19. I discovered several things in Austin. The most surprising was how unlike their pictures people often look. One such inspector’s retort was “I’m a bald fat guy. What did you expect?â€

  21. Bad Brian Bad Bad Brian You are one sick puppy I may be exposing[:-wiltel] myself here but why does your mind stay in that gutter? [:-censore
  22. Yes, I had not considered the critter factor. The property is rural. Sacks of corn stored and some scattered at the tree line! Thank you for the response.
  23. Thread Drift Recently inspected a property with a one year old detached garage. Pegboard over cellulose insulation. But one heck of a musty smell. The property had excellent drainage and no plumbing. No evidence of any water entry. I have not had the opportunity to "fondle" any of the product. Was the smell from the insulation?
  24. Gerry, I did not use the link. Went to the website. Did NACHI see the need for a test vs a quick quiz?
  25. Guess my .......toe, I know the ones I was unsure of and they were few. The version I took was not that tough. Bow up the bar is set Brian[:-irked][:-mischievous][:-irked]
