Yes, as a matter of fact the whole shebang needs to be redone. Did they actually cut into the water heater flue to make passage for the water piping?? I know, it's a pre-heater, green thinking. That's a classic. Is there any flow out of the hot water side at all??? Oh dear, didn't realize the ceiling was so close - thank goodness for flex-pipe. Just when you think you've seen it all. There is a lot wrong there - Uncle Bob should be sacked.

Call a contractor to replace. Are you a scratch golfer? I tried for years to become a good golfer - just wasn't in the cards.

Remember to make sure your house is still standing. Homes that have been razed or have burned down have a hard time passing a home inspection.

I'd write it up. If the bathroom is on an outside wall it will make a big difference.

Must be in the air. One of the absolute worst installations I've ever seen. Not that an upside down pressure gauge effects (now I'm guessing on the right use of effect/affect - thanks [:-weepn] ) anything but it just shows a total lack of knowledge/care. No low water cutoff, no pressure reducing feed water valve, 14' run of pipe with no support, no insulation, not a plumb pipe in the entire installation - a real hack job. Seems the t/p relief valve was leaking. He said it was a faulty valve and replaced it. The pressure of the boiler was pushing 30# at room temperature. Go figure.

You sure it's a steam boiler and not a hydronic conversion?

Hi Gary: I don't think anyone can point you to a publication that states that crimping and soldering copper is an "approved" method of capping however I seen it done many times. To me it's more of a common sense thing. Will anyone be injured because of it? Is it leaking now? Are there bigger fish to fry? What would I recommend, that it be taken apart then put back together with a short nipple and a cap because it doesn't look pretty now?? I ain't drillin' down that far.

Shouldn't have any affect on the blower. I'd rank that right up there with the damper you can install in a dryer vent line to divert the warm air into the home. Step right up, I've got a magic elixer - hey, what are you doing with that tar?

I carry a pair of sneaks that have never been outside. I always take my outdoor shoes off when I come into a home and then put on the sneaks.

Are you having problems with the battery life? No, I wouldn't think so - I'm getting about 3 inspections on one battery. When it's getting ready to expire the high/low beam doesn't work any more (I thought mine was broke). Shortly after that the light goes dim in a big hurry. Keep the extra battery in your pocket. The one thing about the Ultra I do like is that you just hang it on the wall, in it's charger, and it ready to go when you are.

I'm diggin' my TK. Does a great job in a dark attic. I have learned to carry the extra battery in my pocket however - not much advanced notice that it's going to crap out.

Anyone ever see instructions from one of these? I'm curious as to how the manufacture advises the home owner to test it.

There was a post some time ago about testing sump pumps with the little plastic tube sticking out of the plug. I'm not sure if it was here or over at the ASHI board though. Anyway the inspector used a suction bulb of some sort. Anyone know what this is? I've been meaning to get one but not sure where to get it.

Bill, do you have any written documentation supporting that? Could use it for my reports.
