  1. Owned by a banker. Yep, legally blind, alright. []
  2. I call it an outdoor faucet. To some of my clients, bibs are for babies.
  3. I see it. It is Bib in the thread title and Bob in the pic title. It is just an all-thumbs typo error. Yeah, I see that a lot, too. [] The old pipe on the right is tarnished from so many years in a damp environment. Yeah I see that quite a bit. [] Oh, you mean the backwards valve? He can winterize the house and have some water left in the bib for ice cubes. [] Steve, you are seeing this a lot? By the law of averages, it should only be 50% of the time. []
  4. Here's a thread on that other website. The pics show similar rust stains. Speculation runs rampant. Nice pic of a Tommy gun. http://www.inspectionnews.net/home_insp ... cause.html
  5. Santa's putting a power booster module under the tree for me. $49 at Canadian Tire (kinda like a Pep Boys store).
  6. Cinder blocks. They used real cinders in them days. Try searching here for previous discussions. No serious issues AFAIK.
  7. Just thot this was funny. The tiles are gone but the black glue is loaded with asbestos. Should somebody tell the guy? It's dam good plywood. [] Click to Enlarge 47.32 KB
  8. I would have spent twice as long and removed that old jamb, metal, schmetal. But congrats on getting 'er done so quick. If you need an excuse to visit you MIL again, drill a hole in each face of a hinge and drive a finishing nail in there so the head catches the other face when the door is closed.
  9. There could be a 30 amp fuse on the power windows. They are warning you that drawing 30 amps of 12 volts can overheat the wiring. My fear beside frying the wiring is smoking the black boxes, IC's and modules on everything that moves. How did the Oldsmobiles and Lincolns of our youth operate without 3 computers on board? [] I seem to be SOL for a simple trailer light hookup. The turn signals are in the 'Smart' junction box, a non-servicable computer chip. Seesh again. Click to Enlarge 59.22 KB
  10. Don't they allow hand signals in BC? Yes, they used to anyway. But the cops are all too young now to remember that. You could maybe drive up here on your 9N and try signaling lane changes with your arm. Might work. [] Apparently up to 2008, Ford was still installing the sockets for the relays, and sometimes the relays too, but in 2009, they chose not to, saving themselves from bankruptcy, I suppose.
  11. I'm guessing that's where the bearing wall ends and the beam takes over. 12' joists were too short, 14's were too expensive. Who wants to drive an hour both ways for lumber? Pass me that jar by yer elbow and then let's get er dun. []
  12. Thanks Jim. Flickering Xmas lights I can do, no problem. It is that left turn signal I need. I may wind up with a remote turn signal control in my lap for the garbage run 3 times a year. That I can power with the 12 v socket on the dash. Maybe 2 push buttons in a box by my left foot. []
  13. Slides, you might be able to scan them and save as jpeg.
  14. Yes I think the trailer wiring, separate filament (cause it is no more than a filament of wire in diameter) is factory installed, so I have enough there to run light bulbs. The after market kit requires that new feeder from the battery. Good idea if I was going for electric brakes. I am thinking to add jumpers up front so each trailer turn signal is tapped to a vehicle turn signal relay. How many relays do I have already? 10 or 15 at least. []
  15. Thanks, Ben. $30 each is the Ford price and I agree that is hosiery. LED tailights are cool, but that means if someone plugs normal tailights in, they could fry the the vehicle wiring harness. Here's what I've come up with, option 4. I could tap the trailer lights wiring in to the vehicle turn signal relays. Surely the relays are robust enough to power one more bulb. ? The running lights come on when you lock, unlock and everytime you say boo. Trailer running lights can be done some other way, like a little battery pack or 2 cheap flashlights. And I agree, spreading legs certainly could cause problems. []
  16. The new Ford Escape is supposed to replace the pickup and the sedan. It's a "cross-over" vehicle, they say. [] The premise is that it will tow a little utility trailer, and I'm a utility kinda guy. We are lucky old George's XLT came with a factory hitch, bonus. Under the back bumper, a factory installed wiring harness, bonus? Wrong. The plug is installed and all taped up but there's no power to it. The manual warns that installing trailer lights can blow the electronics. Hokum, I thought, we do this all the time, tap into the tailight harness and drive away. What are they saying? Well here's what. The wiring in the 2009 Ford Escape is so flimsy and light gauge, it can't handle the load of an additional bulb. Saving $$ and reducing weight, I suppose. No kidding, the wire bundle to 3 tialight bulbs looks like the thinnest of speaker wire, black tape included. In the big fuse box are slots for trailer lights as follows, a 20 amp fuse, a 15 amp fuse, and no less than 3 relays, one for each signal and one for running lights. Installing the 3 relays at $30 apiece should do the trick, except ..... The slots for the 3 relays are duds. There are no contacts in there nor any wiring installed. Sheesh, what a hassle. I now have 3 options, solder leads to 3 relays and try to hook them up in the fuse box somehow. I've got the fuses to start from and can search for the trailer wiring. Buy an after market module with built-in relays that takes 12 v from the battery and micro-signals from the tailight wiring, Or, install 12v LED bulbs in my trailer lights, and just, old school, tap them into the tailight harness? Sheesh, what a hassle.
  17. Ben, that is a nice shot. I would think the drone could be charged and readied to go ahead of time to cut down on the setup time. For my area, rarely see more than two full storeys, the pole camera works good and takes still snap shots with the timer function. I adapted the 12' paint pole to fit a 12' pruning pole for a 22' reach. Plus 4 or 5' for the height of the poleman. I have used the 12' pole from the top of the ladder, a very fast way to get a chimney crown shot or two. The Pole Camera adds only 5 or 10 minutes at the most for setting up and still shots are on an SD card, quick to load straight into a report.
  18. Tom says it is ghosting which is soot. Les says it is black or sometimes green, that is algae growth. Which is it? I can't tell from here. We need a swab sample. [] I've noticed black soot ghosting where there is a busy road close by. Carbon from diesel engines. and maybe dust from brake pads. Algae stains, we have plenty of that here. But like Jim, I've not seen it concentrated above windows like that.
  19. As I recall, DDT is not particularly hazardous to humans. It's still used today in many countries. The problem was that it devastated bird populations by causing their eggshells to become thin. It's possible that the only reason we still have bald eagles is because of the ban on DDT. Given that malaria is not a big problem in the U.S. the ban here is probably an unequivocal good thing. How would bald eagles become exposed to DDT? Was the stuff used in wilderness areas that these birds thrive in? Eagles eat the fish that grew up in the creek and ate the insects.Eagles eat road kill when there's no fish handy. Or you will see them at the landfill hunting rats maybe and eating garbage. They are a noble bird but they take food anywhere they can get it. Fast on the draw there, Scott. []
  20. Hydraulics and PosiTrac. So you drift along to the prom with one wheel up. Ladder in the trunk, big back seat, ..... yeh.
  21. Neutral is needed, indeed, sir. []
  22. Thanks, Greg. Editor's note: would = wood 2nd paragraph. [] A centre of the Addic pichure wood tell the tail. []
  23. Here for the wiring rough-in inspection, the muni inspector wants to see all the boxes wired with wire nuts in place and two pigtails sticking out. If that passes, the receptacles go in. No small wonder back-stabbing takes place at that stage. It certainly simplifies the electrical inspection. The wire nuts have proven to be satisfactory, except yes sometimes a wire pops out and you lose power. Pigtails allow for easy replacement of receptacles, cheap 'upgrade' for a house flipper.
  24. I haven't seen that. The only 240 volt appliances I've seen in residential that have 120 V loads and don't have an internal 240/120 transformer are clothes dryers. Marc Why do they need a neutral connection?
  25. 'Most' modern appliances have a computer module or two and they require a 120 to low voltage power supply as a rule. That is why I would question only 3 prong 240 outlets in a brand new house.
