  2. Here I go agreeing with the home inspector again! [:-bonc01] The first piece of pipe after the 90 coming out of the furnace is running down hill, then it looks like its running flat to the next 90. Then it must start climbing at some point to hit the chimney going out. Why didnt they take and spin the furnace 90 degrees when they installed it to atleast cut down on the offsets?[:-weepn] With that many offsets its no wonder they needed that big of a flue pipe to vent it,but by the time it reaches the chimney im suprised it has enough force behind it to properly vent! [] And as far as the aluminum tape on the flue pipe it must be to keep all the condensation from dripping out of all the joints in that flat/reversed sloping pipe! [:-yuck]
  3. How about a picture of the rest of the install, including where flue attaches to furnace?[:-magnify
  4. Is it in front of a tub?
  5. Spray foam works well for the same purpose. It's one of the few valid uses for that stuff. Unless it expands moving the pan with it
  6. Ive seen more than 1 carpenter lay out a layer of thick grout before installing pan
  7. Undercoating in a can! [] Id like to watch him float that miracle boat down the missouri river! [:-eyebrow
  8. Heat naturally rises,so it depends on how your duct work is laid out as to how hard its going to work to move the heat back down stairs. Have you tried closing the upstairs vents to force more air to lower levels? How about ceiling fans?
  9. I'm inclined to agree with you, John. Minimum ampacity may be 14.4 amps, but what is the max? As Marc says, maybe 2 or 3 times that at every startup. If the compressor seizes up, the breaker won't trip until the current reaches 25 amps or more. Running a #14 gauge feeder inside a wall and feeding it with a 25 amp breaker would be asking for trouble, IMO. Simply put, the label does not say to use a #14 supply cable. Does it? [?] Interestingly, the Canadian (CEC) rule, here for static heating loads, such as electric baseboard heating, allows us to use a wire gauge one size smaller than the standard. This is the new rule, and only applies to non-fluctuating loads. [:-graduat
  10. Agreed that 14 AWG & a 25A circuit breaker is code compliant, & if a 25A breaker could not be found, a fusible pullout A/C disco is cheap & then 25A fuses could be installed...... "Wire it to the minimum, overcurrent protection to the max." That is how bids are won. ?????????
  11. Yeah thats what threw me for a loop at first on the rubber san-tee,I thought it was a melted piece of pvc at first! [:-paperba

  16. What he said!
  17. Id say it depends a lot on who was on the local plumbing board when the rules were written, and which material they prefered. It could be worse ,if you had a bunch of union plumbers on the board you could of been required to use all cast iron pipe and dwv copper for all your waste/vent piping in your house! [:-spin]
  18. Nice work! [][][][][]
  19. Nice work, not sure about about the location though unless youre in a really warm part of the country
  20. Those pictures lok better than most of the pex jobs ive ever seen, still not allowed to use it in the city of Omaha though last I heard
  21. Shook my head a lot and used a lot of oohs and ahs! [:-shake][:-scared][][:-sick][:-spin] We are starting with basic repairs to keep the city happy and keep it livable, they have no place else to go while work is being done. The mom who owns the property lives on one side of duplex, while the son who works for me part time as a helper lives on other side with his wife and kids. The meth head brother who did all the hack work stays in the basement, fortunately hes sitting in jail so the city inspector didnt see him or we might of been out of luck if he started arguing with the inspectors. I told his mom he wouldnt be able to stay in the basement once he got out due to all the code violations and changes that needed to be made, most obvious being no egress windows incase the thing went up in flames from his hack wiring job. [:-crazy]
