ejager
Looking for an ID please. 1985 home in Calgary and the siding looked great. All aluminum corners in place, all most all butt joints covers in place. I see a groove in the back of the (what I assume to be ) hardboard that is unlike anything I am familiar with. but then I see the cross section of the "blocks" at a telephone jack and older electrical cover plate and think it could be newer materials. Jim Katen
Looks like a hardboard face pressed onto an OSB back. I don't recognize that particular product, but Masonite used to make one with similar construction.
ejager
Thanks Jim, I believe it is a Masonite or similar hardboard product. I'm just surprised to a find a 35 year old installation that looked so good .
Jim Katen
That siding is much younger than 35 years. The house has been resided.
InspectorBuck
This is an engineered wood siding. One brand is smartside I believe. It is similar to an OSB product.
Larry Fontana
I know I’m late to the party but InspectorBuck is correct. This is an LP SmartSide type of product. I see joint moldings were used at the butt joints which is fine but the raw edges are supposed to be protected from the weather. Raw edges should be painted and/or caulked. That siding looks like a newer install to me.
