Brandon Whitmore
From what I can gather from the IRC '03, the min. tread depth of a winder should be 6". The tread depth at this stairwell landing/ step is 5" against the railing. Judging from this pic-- am I justified in calling this out a inadequate tread depth, or am I missing something? randynavarro
Not looking at my stair book right now, but if I recall, you have to measure the tread depth from the centerof the step. IOW, if the stair is 36" wide, you measure the depth at 18" from the end of the step.
charlie
Where that winder tread meets the newel the minimum width is 6"-----I would say they missed by about 6"
Brandon Whitmore
Randy, IRC says to measure 12" out I believe, but I also believe that the min. depth is 6" from what I am reading.
