My first time seeing this. Home built in 1983. The stack, concrete cap and rain hat are all in good shape. The interior bricks have efflorescence showing. The fireplace does have a heatilator. What would cause this on the interior brick?

Hi Rob,

Did you sound that crown to determine if it's fully adhered or did you just do a visual on it? How was the mortar where the counter flashings are let into the stack? Were there a set of shoulders on that stack that might have loose/cracked caps?

Thanks guys,

It looks to me like the crown and flashing were replaced when the roof was replaced, approx 5 yrs or so ago. I have added another pic to my original post. There was no water staining etc... to the interior ceiling. The damper was a rusted, which is not to uncommon for 26 yrs.
