  1. Should the lighting circuits in bedrooms be tied into AFCI breaker? Should the outlets be on the same AFCI circuit as lighting?
  2. Deep in the heart of Brooklyn.
  3. I've heard of "Desktops" and I've heard of "Stovetops", but I've never heard of a "Deskstovetop" Image Insert: 58.12 KB
  4. It all needs to be fixed. Quality, salaries... everything.
  5. IF there is going to be a bailout, I think those poeple deserve it. Listen, I would love a pension too, but in my life me decisions brought me to where I am and the "condition" of my pension. There are a number of people that have put in many years, should you now tell a retiree, "Sorry, go eat dogfood?" If they did, wouldn't the taxpayer be paying for them anyway?
  6. It can't continue status quo. If all the bailout is, is an extension of the same, I'm against it. I think the bailout should be guarenteeing the pensions of the workers and for warentees. It is imperative that the labor cost is competitive with the imports. From that point on, I feel the restructuring should be financed by private investment.
  7. Griz, There are a few things that could cause problems igniting your fireplace. Be smart and get someone that knows what they are doing to look at it. Whatever it costs, which probably won't much, will be well worth it if you can avoid a fire or an explosion. Somtimes it's cheaper to go first class, get it done right the first time.
  8. Maybe her husband is the inspector.
  9. I checked 24', but I carry a 28' ladder.
  10. I have used a few different report programs and didn't like any of them... even the ones I almost liked. I have never used IE, but have only heard good things about it, if ever I was in the market, I'm sure that is the program I would use. Besides the product, Mike B is a decent and very supportive man. I do use HIPro. I am very happy with it. I is very flexible and once you pass the learnig curve it is a great time saver. The finished product is very handsome and the support is great.
  11. The reason that hot water is used for toilets in cold climates is to camouflage the steam.
  12. Is your furnace providing heat, or heat/AC ? When was the thermostat last changed? How many wires are coming from the furnace to the thermostat?
  13. I am welcome to bring visitors anytime.
  14. You get to hold the head[:-crazy] Obviously you are not into sheep. Those that are into sheep don't hold the head. Another great thing is if you tell your wife or girlfriend, "hey babe, I'm in the mood to shear the sheep," she has no idea how much shearing you plan on doing. Hey Chad, will talking dirty work? Do sheep have bikini lines?
  15. So do I get a prize??? Maybe lessons from Chad on how to shear a sheep? There's a big call for that in NYC.
  16. Not because of where it is, and if I was to go out on a limb to guess, It looks like some type of transformer... I've seen similar wiring on neon signs.
  17. There are a number of fireplaces in the house. Some of the hearths are made with bricks that are stamped with their name in it.
  18. I just googled "Kreischer Mansion Staten Island", hoping to find out about the architecture of the house. I didn't find out much yet, but there is a ton of stuff about the murders and about the house being haunted. And to think that my friend lives in that place all by himself. EEKS!!!
  19. Walter, I googled lincrusta and anaglypta. I see what you are talking about and I guess it could be that. The only problem is that it seems that lincrusta was invented in 1877, I believe the house was build a few years prior. I also googled leather wall coverings and found embrossed leather wall coverings with repetitive patterns, so I'm really not sure. I wonder how one would tell the difference without damaging the material? Anyway, they say you can learn something new every day... today it was from you. Thanks.
  20. WJ, I can't even say those words, let alone know what they mean. I guess it's Google time. I asked the caretaker and he told me it was leather. Yes, there is definately a repeating pattern. But I am really not sure.
  21. Actually, it wasn't a traditional Home Inspection, it was an insurance inspection. The whole thing took about 1/2 hour... plus an hour of shooting the breeze with my friend that I haven't seen since I was 17.
  22. The house is already sold. It was bought by an out of state developer that has already built quite a bit on Staten Island. He plans on building on the property. The existing home is a protected landmark. He is going to build around it and use the house as a community clubhouse. The caretaker (an old football team mate of mine) has been living there rent free plus a salary for the past few years and probably at least a few more.
  23. I inspected a home yesterday that is probably the most interesting than I have ever been in. Image Insert: 74.68 KB Built in the 1880's, it belonged to the Krieschler family... they made bricks. All of the first floor walls and some ceilings were carved leather. Image Insert: 144.23 KB Image Insert: 112.87 KB Image Insert: 77.29 KB Image Insert: 72.7 KB Image Insert: 101.59 KB Image Insert: 81.24 KB Image Insert: 69.98 KB But there is more to this home's history. It seems that about two years ago, before the present owner purchased it. Someone was murdered and stuffed into the furnace. The FBI took it away as evidence. These babies have been installed as replacements. Image Insert: 53.43 KB
  24. What smell? [:-yuck]
  25. That's how my report system is set up. I don't have a side bar, but I do have tabs at the top of each and every page. I can go anywhere from anywhere with one click.
