  1. Is there a required minimum distance between the proximity of an exterior water source and electric? Click to Enlarge 34.17 KB
  2. How about sharing this on your FB page, so some of us can share it with folks who would never dream of having an inspection on a new / newer home.
  3. A union carpenter would have the tools, the time, and the training to use the right tool. They'd know, taking two extra minutes to do it correctly, wouldn't cost them money from their wages for insurance or a retirement plan. Glad I learned all of that before I left. []
  4. I didn't do the edit but the answers to your questions are, yes, yes, yes. Too contentious? "Why is this posted in attics and insulation?" That wasn't contentious, This is! You guys are a bunch of pansies. Better behave yourself, Mr. Or, you'll be next.[] It's all Lamb's fault to begin with. If he would've just posted some "High Art" dryer lint photos of well, maybe a lint lizard, this whole thread would've been different, and we would've all gone home with a shiny Tball trophy. But, Noooo! []
  5. I've been looking for that since you first posted. What did you figure out about it?
  6. Not anymore! It caught on fire the last time I cleaned the dryer.
  7. Bob, I understand what you're saying but, most people aren't going to pay someone to tear their appliances apart for a thorough cleaning. If you can get a few to use these, why not? I honestly laughed at it when the girl brought it home. After seeing what it got out of the machine, and more importantly, the fact that she likes it and uses it, is good enough for me. The vent itself is of course, a separate project, better suited for a leaf blower. Drift; The leaf blower is also the perfect tool for cleaning a shop vac filter. Just make sure you check the wind first, or you could end up with a bunch of pissed off neighbors and firemen in your yard.
  8. There's one around here, somewhere. They work just fine.
  9. Waste my time so they won't waste someone else's? Yep, I'll get right on that. Really? Here, try one of these. []
  10. Nope they are not endorsed by ASHI. Scott, The sales person mentioned that it was in one of the newsletters and lots of ASHI members were taking advantage of their service. I don't recall seeing anything. I had my turn with one of them last week. The guy lied about something every time his mouth moved. Then, he got angry when I told him his company didn't pass my background check because of the number of complaints they had and the pattern of them. He told me the complaints were "obsolete". Then, we went a couple of rounds over his definition of that word meaning insignificant, before I finally grew tired of playing and told him I wasn't interested in the service or teaching an English class. So, here's what you guys need to do. If you get a call from them, keep using the word "obsolete" for everything other than what it means. It should do one of two things. Either they'll be completely baffled and hang up, or these people will figure out the connection and go back to calling the small time contractors they prey on most. If you have time, keep them on the phone for as long as you can stand it. That takes time away from them being able to scam someone else.
  11. Whutttttt? Go buy a new TV. You'll pay half the cost of a 5 year old TV and Uh, have a new one to watch the Ravens get crushed every week this year.

  13. Stands, and applauds!
  14. Yeah, a buddy got fined $150 for having a plank sticking out over the tailgate. It was a roughcut slab from a portable mill he was running. The slab was worth about $2. [] Loaded logging trucks here have to have a red flag, usually a dirty brown rag jammed into the dirty brown log with a screwdriver. Well, the good news is, they found out what caused the nonsensical thinking, the reason behind stupid laws like this, and put and end to it. No more cupcakes in school.
  15. There's radon in the bowels of one of three nuke plants here. It likes plastic helmets, safety glasses, and clothing. It's mitigated by either standing in front of a fan or losing at least temporarily, some clothing. No big deal, no stack of paperwork. Trust my experience. They don't miss many chances to make you sign paper work when it comes to radiological concerns. A brother in law is a senior Rad tech with training way beyond anything any HI will ever be required to learn. From the conversations we've had on the subject, It's more like fifty darker shades of Gray.
  16. Click to Enlarge 57.88 KB Ah, yes! The red flag. Never have understood the point of this. Especially on a red ladder! Anyone ever been pulled over for not having one? How would a cop know you didn't have one, if he couldn't see the lumber or ladder to begin with?
  17. Check out the comments on the page. One HI uses and loves it. Five star rating!
  18. I think the same might be the case with anything over 16' these days. I used to see 20' lumber in the yards but, not anymore.
  19. Still carry your tools in that Disney backpack?
  20. I agree, Bill. If you're worried more about people who have less than a tenth of the training you do, are here today and gone tomorrow, and you are more concerned with becoming a hand picked lap dog inspector who does as he's told, rather than to improve your report for the folks who depend on your honest advice, you should stay the course and not rock the boat. (Insert sarcastic thingy here) God help you if you incur the wrath of the almighty agent$
  21. Looks like a granite composite sink. If it is, Mr. Perry is correct. It will shatter. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news ... /index.htm
  22. Not me! I love it. The more they talk, the more fun it is. Had a 25 year old contracting veteran of 12 years, proudly show me his palace, last weekend. Smarter than any apprentice or teenager you'll ever meet!
  23. There's a bunch of people making it around here. They use Everclear or some other legal shine type. It does in fact, taste exactly like apple pie. If you close your eyes, you can even taste the crust. If you drink three glasses, it becomes apple pie alacammode.
  24. Ok. So, just open a sidewalk tanning salon!
  25. Maybe that explains how the wall ended up like that.
