  1. We escaped the ice for the most part. Folks north of us ended up with it. I think they have their power back. Hope so. They're supposed to get another foot of snow today.
  2. Well the fir vs pine thing is clearly regional. But why is it that easterners have a thing against worm drive saws? I can't even imagine framing a house with a stinking sidewinder. I have a titanium hammer because it's light and a 15 amp sidewinder ((8.1lbs with a blade speed that's 25% faster than any worm drive) for the same reason. I'm sure your proclivity for a 28 oz Estwing and a 14 lb. worm drive with a zillion moving parts makes your day go much faster? A titanium hammer? Both of the hammers I use when I'm planning on driving more than one nail, are orange and burn butane. I thought worm drives were made for lefties with arms like Popeye?
  3. I always thought maybe the moderators were being cautious, and waiting for the others to decide on giving the green light to suspicious posts.
  4. That's easy. Horns are on cows. Ya can't shoot them. Deer have antlers. Go ahead.
  5. In a heartbeat. Meetings offer an opportunity of understanding and articulating thoughts that a personality behind a key board, may never be able to fully express.
  6. Just saw this on TV. Is it something new? http://www.certainteedfibercementsettle ... m/hc/en-us
  7. Hell, no. A visit to the city I live in, would be like taking you to a theme park.
  8. I can fix that. Click to Enlarge 12.7 KB Or.... Click to Enlarge 48.26 KB
  9. I have a lousy picture of the same thing on a parged foundation wall of a house I did last week. Posting it will be no help. I think it might be this product or similar, and they didn't coat it thick enough to hold the glass flat. http://www.quikrete.com/PDFs/DATA_SHEET ... 201216.pdf
  10. GPS is through the satellites. As long as you have clear view of southern sky, GPS will pick up signals. The app only looks up street address at the origin and destination of the trip. That part needs internet access. So you need either cell data coverage or wifi at that time. Ted On Saturday, October 12, 2013, Gary Blum wrote: Hi, What happens if your trip takes you to an area with no phone coverage? Does the GPS continue to work? Does the app continue to record the trip?
  11. I see. Making a deal with the devil is easier than doing your homework, like Scott Wood did? Would this be an example of the type of support perspective members should expect from this organization when faced with legal issues?
  12. I don't think it needs the bluetooth on. I turn it on because the truck is set up with it for the phone. (I discovered that three months after leasing the truck.) I guess you're using your pencil that day. At least you know that might happen. Sooner or later, it's going happen to me. Even then, you could go back and put it in manually so it will show up on your spread sheet with the rest of the trips. If I knew why and how it all worked I'd be in a different business.[] They were quick to get back to me about a question I had. Ask them about it. The support reviews are good. They seem to take their product seriously Load it up and play with it like I did. You'll either like it, or you won't. Spend the ten bucks. Don't waste time on the free app, like I did. Jump right in. It's an office supply, not a game. Your tax man should be able to write it off whether you love it or hate it. You don't think I'd open my belly to you wolves if I hadn't checked it out first, do ya?
  13. I guess I'm old school. I have a stand installed next to my seat in the van and simply write down the miles I drive every day in a 3x5 note pad. My note pad has never crashed. Can't beat it for reliability. The smart phone I previously used for taking notes during my inspections got replaced with a clipboard, paper and pen a few years ago. Haven't lost anything since then AND it's actually faster. Marc Yeah, I know what you mean. Seems like it took forever for me to finally trust refrigerators. I got along just fine salting my meat and cooling my drinks in the creek. I not sure what could be faster than plugging in to my truck and forgetting about it while it does ALL of the work, and backs itself up, but I thought I'd share it with y'all after I played with it and found out how well it worked. You guys want to buy some pencils from me? []
  14. I figured it out. When you open the app, there's a shortcut for the GPS, Bluetooth, and other, on a toolbar above it. It saves you from going back and forth through the phone settings to start the process. The free version is manual input, only. Other than changing the starting odometer if needed, everything works automatically. When you're done, you unplug it from the truck and it ends. You still need to click the GPS and Bluetooth off from the toolbar. If you want a report for the day, monthly or whatever, you click on "reports" and have it email a completed spreadsheet with everything recorded and totaled, to you or your tax people. It also keeps track of tolls, oil changes, maintenance purchases, fuel, and other stuff I'm too lazy to likely to forget bothering to write. Sounds similar to what Scott uses without having a separate GPS???
  15. That's the one thing that puzzles me, too. Other than that, it seems to do what it claims to. I Emailed a spread sheet to me yesterday, to see how it worked. Done deal. It was all there. Just save to file. That in itself, is worth the ten bucks.
  16. Anyone else using this or something like it? I just upgraded to the pay to play. So far, so good. Check it out. http://bizlogapp.com/features.html
  17. Uh oh! Here comes the part where they chop up the thread!
  18. Yup! The grown up version of the "Frogger" video game!
  19. That's not because of stuff like this. [] Seriously, I try to choose my battles and weigh things out. I see as much wrong or not quite by the book as the next guy does. Sometimes I just shake my head, consider the circumstances, and understand what lead to the reasoning behind goofy decisions that are wrong but, really aren't worth worrying about when you compare the test of time to the cost of making something perfect by today's standards. If you spend enough time working on old houses, you see enough to become somewhat desensitized to what some might turn into being a huge problem, because most of what they know was learned by reading about it, rather than living it. Bottom line is; The breaker is far enough behind the unit for me to single that out as needing to be moved. It's wrong. Close enough. Does anyone ever find one mounted to the side, where they belong?
  20. Thanks, Scott. I considered the weather, then pictured some kid running a steady stream of water directly into the box while taking a nice cool drink from it.
  21. Is there a required minimum distance between the proximity of an exterior water source and electric? Click to Enlarge 34.17 KB
  22. How about sharing this on your FB page, so some of us can share it with folks who would never dream of having an inspection on a new / newer home.
  23. A union carpenter would have the tools, the time, and the training to use the right tool. They'd know, taking two extra minutes to do it correctly, wouldn't cost them money from their wages for insurance or a retirement plan. Glad I learned all of that before I left. []
  24. I didn't do the edit but the answers to your questions are, yes, yes, yes. Too contentious? "Why is this posted in attics and insulation?" That wasn't contentious, This is! You guys are a bunch of pansies. Better behave yourself, Mr. Or, you'll be next.[] It's all Lamb's fault to begin with. If he would've just posted some "High Art" dryer lint photos of well, maybe a lint lizard, this whole thread would've been different, and we would've all gone home with a shiny Tball trophy. But, Noooo! []
