  1. Funny! That was the homeowner's kid's doll. They let me use it after I measured the head and asked them. The buyer staged it for the picture. Everyone stood there roaring at it. The only thing missing was some idiot agent having a heart attack! Bad news was, they wouldn't sell me the doll.

  6. Any chance there was a heater in the bath fan?
  7. I'll come clean with this. "Clean" Get it? This was intentionally done as a joke by a friends brother. It's a dummy outlet. Oh! yeah! He just happens to work at NASA. Anybody still wondering why we haven't made it to Mars yet?

  9. I like the picture of the clothes dryer.
  10. I don't know where I ever got the idea I could turn away from my truck, click the remote at the door to my house, and expect it to unlock. Not just one time, either. Funny what conditioning can do. I want one.
  11. Sure it could. You could probably get that approved by a sanitation engineer, the guy who drew the cartoons for the Tacoma narrows bridge, and maybe even the engineer in charge of Thomas the train.

  13. Wow! Flowers, already? Mine still looks like a bundle of sticks. No summer for us!
  14. I like Simmons optics. Whatever you choose, spend the $. You do get what you pay for. A few bucks can make a huge difference.
  15. Aren't we all? You understand my point. If you're going to spend most of your life worrying about what might be the next thing that could kill you, you won't have time to spend much of your life, living.
  16. Yup, but I'm certainly not fool enough to dismiss the fact it's done harm to me. I've also been exposed to concrete dust, asbestos, lead paint, lead fumes, numerous nuke plant drywell dives that resulted in exposures of over 300 mr per session, microwaves, ate cupcakes in school, played cops and robbers with fake guns, love bacon, eggs, and fried hamburgers. Let's see if they can pinpoint which one gets me. I will admit, I've cut way down on the running with scissors thing.
  17. I think this keeps close enough to the subject, and why folks believe what they do. Go directly to 16:18. Watch this and tell me it doesn't scare the hell out of you. We live in a world of idiots and followers. Nuff said. Study on! [utube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPtHqqg_Ddc" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="344">
  18. You might want to look that one up again, although it also cuts across perfect political lines. Forbes, CNN, Fox, Cato....they all cite studies with no clear link, then segue into how it's a coverup for another Obama secret agenda to fund overseas abortions. American Cancer Society, Cardio-Pulmonary Medical professionals, EPA, WHO, CDC all cite second hand smoke as a clear and proven hazard, with a few proclamations of "indisputable fact". Who are you going to believe? When science goes political, it's over. Ha! I've never looked any of it up. I'm waiting for them to name the first person they can prove it caused harm to. Too many other contributing factors over the course of a life time. That's my own opinion. I don't put much faith in the media or the opinions of political club members. Recent studies have shown the results of studies generally fall in favor of the beliefs of those who sponsored the studies. []
  19. Thanks, What I mean is, isn't the breakdown affected by variables?
  20. Sure. Follow the money and the guy with the loudest voice. That's pretty much how everything goes. I saw a similar opinion of the same Jerry's talking about, a few years ago. I think it was from a study done at a well known university. Mark, Don't decay rates alter half lives dramatically? Isn't it a flip of the coin whether or not radon might or might not cling to particulates? Going back to what Dirks said. There's really no way to prove it, given the number of other things humans are exposed to and have different tolerances for during the course of a life time. My personal favorite is second hand smoke. Impossible to prove. You can't smoke in the grandstands during a tractor pull or an auto race, (except Indy, where anything goes) but don't worry about the exhaust and brake dust. that's good for you, I guess.
  21. My brother in law is a Radiological Engineering Supervisor at one of the local nuke plants. Someone who actually deals with this stuff on a daily basis. The guy is a very low key individual who usually doesn't bother getting involved on controversial discussions. Since there is a spot in one plant that has a radon problem, and they never seem too concerned about it, or even mentioned it while 1200 of us sat through days of mandatory rad worker training required to enter the gate, I asked him about his opinion of home inspector testing methods. He laughed, and likened the most common methods used to be right on par with that of mold testing. I don't remember the whole conversation about half lives and the wild chance of radon surviving long enough on a particulate that might be ingested. I won't pretend I do. I do remember him saying, without a full years worth of careful monitoring, under very controlled conditions, tests results would be pretty much, worthless. I can tell you this much. It likes to cling to plastic badges, safety glasses and helmets. They have a nice big fan to stand in front of, to blow it off you before you enter the monitors to exit the RCA.
  22. I heat with only a stove. Haven't run the furnace in at least eight years. I think most of what you're seeing is incidental. Looks pretty normal, and pretty clean, to me. I make a habit of having a chimney fire every day, to prevent real one from occurring.
  23. I guess I still didn't get the right angle? It's easier to see in person. Everything is directed away from that area. Not toward it. That's why I now think, it had to be from years of someone packing snow and salt against it. I just don't see run off damaging a vertical plane like that without seeing evidence of any erosion or other related deterioration. Maybe they tried to clean it with a hydro laser?
  24. You forced me into taking a three minute ride back to this place. [] The house was built in 85. It all looks original to me. I appreciate the input.
