  1. Really? C'mon, Jim. Wouldn't the red flag query be counter productive to the scam succeeding? Does trapping an unsuspecting home inspector, and being tied up in a legal battle sound like it might be a better gig than winning the Nigerian Lottery? BTW, suckers are bottom feeders. Trout rise for "bait." []
  2. Get them on the phone and find out. They probably did get burnt or were warned by someone who did. You'll figure it out one way or the other in about five minutes. Why leave money on the table? A phone conversation isn't a commitment to hire on. Could be a kook, could be a great client.
  3. Misleading them? "Oh, and as far as we know, (wink wink) there are no snakes here." Almost sounds like a good way to get someone else to cut a check for the remodeling planned after move in.
  4. You guys drilled this through my skull years ago. Less is more. Pictures with arrows and circles are king. I'm a firm believer in the practice of "Erbonics."
  5. #stairsRjunk I like it. Saves a bunch of time!
  6. The fact you bothered to mention this, tells me you know better. Don't.
  7. No good deed shall go unpunished. Sorry to hear this, Joe. I recently had a better outcome to what could have become a bad situation. My client ordered radon tests as an afterthought to the inspection. When I went back to set them up two days later, the partially finished basement was flooded because the sump and or battery backup failed. (never did find out) Absentee owner. In this case, everyone was grateful I'd returned and discovered the problem.
  8. And, there it is. THE ANSWER. Nobody in their right mind would without question, take a referral for a mechanic from a used car dealer. Why would you trust a used house dealer? I saw room full of light bulbs flicker over the heads of the students I presented that same scenario to, in a first time buyers program I'm involved with. It's not about doing battle with anyone, or legislating anything. It's way more simple than that. It's about educating people. They get it. They're learning. It's up to us to get the message out. Robiltille, might have the right idea. He brings it to the wrong audience.
  9. We used to send guys after 100 feet of shore line and a sky hook.

Buy a Miller harness with two lanyards for 100% tie off! Are you losing it?! When you climb the outside of one of these, there's a point where you're facing out for part of the trip. Never did it myself. Been inside though. The platform at the bottom is for the door to the business end of the interior. It's 50 feet up from the ground. Click to Enlarge 47.28?KB
  11. I think it's a fad that started about 2000 years ago. Eventually, it will burn out. Seriously, to begin with, this is a gas unit. Either way, if you have an open fire that is big enough to threaten a wood mantle, you're already in a world of trouble.
  12. Yes, Sir! Not too many things more exciting than having a whirling chunk of carbide and steel as big as your fist, at belly height, with no Kevlar vest. The sound alone, backed my friend up a few steps. One slip and the panel is junk. Rotate the piece the wrong way, you get tear out. Try to take the whole cut in one pass, you're an idiot asking for it. [] Mantle in the same house from a few years back. The boat never stood a chance of being finished. Click to Enlarge 47.52 KB
  13. Let me clarify. It was launched by my frustration. Not a kickback. []
  14. Thanks, Kurt. I wish I had a video of every time I launched a piece of wood across the room after it instantly twisted, coming off the saw. [] I expected some. This was ridiculous.
  15. Thanks guys. We're going to add a brass rail to the bottom and some brass coat hooks. I burned through a lot of lumber making the raised panels. Pretty much all of it. Had a miserable time with it twisting and curling when I ripped what started out to be 12 and 14 inch wide boards to a workable size. Never seen anything like it. I figured it was just a result of drying boards that were way too wide. If it wasn't for that, I would have had much more control over matching the grain patterns, and I would have built out the stiles with fluted, or something more than what's there. The bar rail is made up from scrap that I laminated and finger jointed with the quarter sawn end facing up. I used a pattern from a piece of rail I made in 1990. I keep stuff like that. I built a sled and made a lexan base plate for the router. I could slide it for the length, then lock it for the cross cuts, to make the fascia. If I can get StevenT to buy the boat, I'll make my friend spend the money on more lumber to build a tricked out back bar and a coffered ceiling.
  16. It might be for sale. I think he had the engine rebuilt. He had started the rehab and I think he had most if not all of the ribs done. Interested in it?
  17. Yes. Now, I think I see the problem. You're dealing with an 8x8 which is the reason the cut is deeper than if it were a ?x6 or ?x4, correct?
  18. This pile of mahogany sat waiting to be used for the restoration of a 59 Chris Craft Capri, that never happened. My friend lost interest or time to continue. He still has the boat. He decided he wanted a man cave with a bar. I decided to take advantage of the opportunity to go a little nuts and took the project beyond what was originally agreed upon. I also took the opportunity to bust his ass by inlaying the stripes on the top, so it would look like the boat would have. I christened it Mahogany Rush. The finish is wet in the pics. It looks better dry. Click to Enlarge 37.65 KB Click to Enlarge 43.74 KB
  19. Hi, I think what's confusing you, is where you have the cut out drawn. Take a pencil and extend the bottom edge of the rafter past the beam. That's where the birds mouth will be. Not where it's drawn. Whether you cut off the end or not, shouldn't matter. Another edit. The one you have drawn is backwards. Now, you should see it.
  20. That's what you get when you build houses out of mulch and resin.
  21. Look at his manicured hand. No poop under those nails!
  22. And, no cables in the springs. Why?
  23. Now, you did it! You'll never work in this town again, Les! []
  24. Yes, but you'll see way more on commercial buildings with metal than on residential. Some of the older homes have some very ornate examples. Very cool looking.
