Les, this link might help answer your last question. Any chance it may have been caused by power washing the material away? Take a look at DC014 near the bottom of the doc. http://www.dryvit.com/fileshare/doc/us/ ... /ds498.pdf
  2. You're making that sound a whole lot easier than the way it's going to happen. What won't you have to disconnect in order to flip the box in an about face? There's going to have to be an awful lot slack and nothing running through studs to get away with that, right?
  3. Interesting comments. I might do the outside while I'm waiting, but until I have a signed contract and a check in my hand, that's as far as I'm going without them.
  4. The good news is, the "stucco" packed into the bottom of that rotted window frame, doesn't have a crack in it.
  5. Better check the serial number. If it was built by the big W, it might never have worked to begin with.[]
  6. Good, useful term. Happens sometimes when the inspector relies too heavily on a checklist. They develop tunnel vision and see nothing but the items on the checklist. Other things cause it too. Marc What's a check list? Nothing to do with that at all. It's as simple as I said. I'm also with Erby on this. Unless I've got a real good reason to dig for something, I don't see much point in spending the entire day in a house, and having people hang around waiting for me to write stuff up. 50 cents an hour is as low as I can afford. The camera expedites the process, and sometimes captures things like water stains, that you won't see if you stare at the same spot for an hour.
  7. Yup. It gets fighter pilots killed from behind. See situational awareness for more on this subject. [] For me, it's easily less than a quarter of them. They're mainly for my reference. It's my note book
  8. It's not so much worrying about that with me. Covering my ass is an incidental byproduct of the method. Not the reason behind it. The more I take, the more I have to work with, and less I wish I had in order to do a better job. I look at it like I'm doing two inspections. One on site, one at the desk. I hate to admit it, but there have been a few times when because of target fixation, I've had other things jump out of those pictures that I would have forgotten or missed. I haven't written a word on site, since very early into my first year of doing this. I average less than 150, but have taken over 200 during a few.
  9. I use the exact same method, for the exact same reason. Loose toilet. Move on. Click to Enlarge 41.91 KB
  10. Working hard and sweating your ass off are all fun and "manly," until heat stress sneaks up and takes you out. The attic is an important place to do a good job inspecting. Like it or not, an attic is a confined space and we need to keep that very much in mind, since there is no partner there with you. By the time you realize the first warning signs of heat stress you're already in trouble. It happens real fast. (Nuke plant heat stress experience story you don't care about, goes here.) Sorry for the drift. I just felt it's an important reminder to consider.
  11. That chrome bumper gave me away!
  12. Would I be interested in towing a small float near the front of the Independence day parade for the Chamber of Commerce? Click to Enlarge 39.67 KB
  13. I see a flex hose that shouldn't be there, the T is upside down, and a bunch of tape or goop on the connection to the right side basket?.
  14. I was actually hoping you had an overall of what's there. Not the print Being a finish carpenter, I'm not real quick to let plumbers slide, but in this case, maybe. If they planned for a 32" base on one side, and a 36" base on the other side of the cook top base, and they got switched by a speed demon trying to get it done, there's a 4" shift in the placement of the cook top base and 0" in the overall run. It's easy to forget how works in the real world. These guys are working on a schedule. They do this every day, unlike Joe homeowner who measures fourteen times, posts questions to a forum, and then sands his shims to get it just right. Doesn't make them hacks.
  15. They must have had a cartoon of the kitchen layout ahead of time. It could be as simple as someone installing different sized cabinets on the opposite side of where they should have been. That would shift the cook top base with them. Do you have a picture of the layout, Scott?
  16. Nah, too much money. Buy another house and turn that one into a HUD rental. I hear they pay on time.
  17. Adam! MOVE THEM! You could also offer one up. Just saying. [utube] " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="344">
  18. Or, maybe there's more to this than one side of the story? How long has this shrubbery feud been going on, Adam? Why was it allowed to escalate to the point of litigation? Why did you feel the need to plant these shrubs anywhere near the exact property line, in the first place? It doesn't look like foot or two would make much difference in the appearance of your lawn. Seems to me, a little common sense, could've saved a you lot of grief. If you know you live next to a kook, and you don't plan to move, then ya gotta be smarter than they are.
  19. Is that a Craftsman with a lifetime warranty, in case it fails while dispatching a raccoon?
  20. One way, would be to support the deck near the post, remove the post, drill down into the existing footer, put rebar in the holes, clean the footer, form around the whole thing, and pour concrete to extend it.
  21. Yes. Stop what you were doing and get an electrician! Man, you got lucky the first time. What if?
  22. From his first post "I flung it out of there with a piece of quarter round trim." Sorry, didn't see that. HE DID WHAT?!!!!!!
  23. I have a friend who had an up close and personal experience with one last year. He's lucky to be around to talk about it. Spent two months in a burn unit. He'll never be the same. I want to know what John did next? You didn't just close the panel back up, right? You didn't just walk away and leave it like that before someone took action, right?
  24. So, what happened after that?
  25. How did you find that out? Is the manufacturer local? It sure does look like someone salvaged a school or factory demo.
