  1. A picture or two would still be nice.
  2. We talked about this once before however I think I was asking about the price to replace them though. Kurt said around 250 a pop if memory serves. If they are rusted and expanding the only repair is replacement. The more they expand the more they will bust up the brick. Rust never sleeps.
  3. Slight thread drift... Do you brew your own suds Randy?
  4. Malernee runs the South side in these parts... []
  5. Did the previous owner bring this to your attention before or after the home was sold? As Richard stated the "flame" -source of ignition- needs to be 18" above the garage floor. Someone may be thinking that the whole furnace needs to be 18" above the floor.
  6. I'm too tired right now.
  7. Guten Tag Kevin.
  8. For those about to inspect, we salute you!
  9. If I understand you correctly Terry, you're suggesting that the liquid refrigerant within the liquid line is expanding into a gas prior to arrival at the system's expansion device and is making the liquid line cold enough to form condensation. Is this correct? Marc I had that originally, as it looks like water is also coming out from where the liquid line enters, however after looking at the picture some more it would appear to be coming mostly from the knockout. To answer your question though Marc yes, that is what I was driving at. When a unit is low on charge the liquid line will sweat, or frost, and that is the place where it will show up first (end of the line sort of thing).
  10. A few things from your picture: The additional hole should be plugged/capped. Just a waste of a/c. The liquid line is tight up against the sheet metal plenum which will be a sure leaker down the road. Also, it looks like the water leak is coming from around where this liquid line enters/in addition to where the cap is missing (dripping down to the liquid line). Also - when you're checking these systems out make sure the condensate line is trapped on a blow through system (positive pressure in the evaporator section which that system is). The condensate will still drain OK with out a trap however with out a liquid seal the system will just keep blowing conditioned air down the drain = waste of money. Click to Enlarge 54.74 KB
  11. Does your furnace have a humidifier attached? Do you use any portable humidifiers? Do your bathroom exhaust fans vent outside the home?
  12. True.
  13. Is that an air gap for the dishwasher or perhaps some sort of vent for the drain?
  14. True, it has staining on top of the 3/4" female.
  15. Looks like it just has a minor condensate leak when the A/C is running. No biggie. Five minutes and five bucks. Was the condensate line trapped at all?
  16. If I had to winterize a hydronic heating system I'd fill with an antifreeze mixture and cirulate it for a while before killing the power to the home. There are too many nooks and cranies where water may not drain properly, the circ pump being one of these. Probably not the best idea to drain the boiler and then leave it set there to rust.
  17. Ties have a bad habit of being sucked into fans and getting hung up on things unless you're really careful with them. During the inspection I have enough to pay attention to.
  18. No ties, no jewelry. Something that was taught to me very early on in the trades for the obvious reasons.
  19. Amen - I do that all the time. In the newer homes the attic scuttle, in the garage, is remarkably high (I have no idea why the ceiling height in the garages has to be that high - to justify the high price of the home - who knows). The LG has the feature of being able to convert into a good size A frame - something that can get you up to the hatch safely. I only carry two ladders, my LG and my 6' step. If I can't reach it with the LG folded out to the max then I ain't going there (yep, bit of a chicken, I admit it).
  20. Tis a new day , and on the advise of a few friends, I'll post to this thread no longer.
  21. No, Any "credibility" - if you want to call it that - which this site has is the result of members keeping it professional, staying away from politics and religion and keeping it about as much factual stuff as is possible. Thank you Mike. Then please tell "others" not to bring their politics AND religion into the mix. Both of which had entered this thread.
  22. The only person that started to bully was Caoimhín against Jim Morrison. I'm pushing back - no doubt I'll be made to look like the bad guy though.
  23. Caoimhín has a personal agenda that he likes to push - if it fits in with the topic being discussed at the moment, and meets with general approval, all is cool. Unfortunately when someone speaks up against his personal opinion he then resorts to personal attacks trying to discredit his opponent. That is when he brings politics and religion into the mix trying to throw as much mud against the wall as he can. He stops at nothing when he is trying to make the other person look bad. That's the truth Mike and is an indisputable fact. Protect him if you want - you must think that he lends some kind of credibility to this web site. I'm sure he will be back to post a rebuttal. Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player That struts and frets his hour upon the stage And then is heard no more: it is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing. Surely we don't have anything against Shakespeare.
  24. Kurt, if you look back through the posts you will see where Caoimhín pulled all the dirty tricks in trying to discredit anyone that disagreed. It is the typical character assassination stunts that people like Caoimhín turn to in the hopes of making the other person look bad. When all else fails try and tie the other person to the thing that some folks love to hate - Al Gore. As I said before it is true strawman tactics.
  25. Ha! Out pops the Catholic church in his post over there. That boy has an over active imagination. From a person over at The Inspection News: Obviously, the flat vs. round Earth issue is about much more than the geometric shape of the planet. It is actually more about the head-in-the-sand conservatives vs. those of us who have managed to pull our heads out and get a glimpse of something other than just what we've been told by the "authorities" (those steeped in the fundamentally-flawed thinking of the Newtonian model of the Universe). As information has become more readily available to the masses, the number of conservatives is dwindling. This has caused the remaining fundamentalists to ramp up their aberrant behavior in an effort to compensate for their losses. By the way, how is that working out for you? While I can empathize with their plight, education is just a book or two and a few thoughts away; inexpensive; and readily accessible to all. There is no longer even a lame excuse for being conservative. But, if it suits you, be that way. The world will continue to change, your seeming refusal to do so notwithstanding. I'll buy him a beer anytime. On the internet circuit Caoimhín is known as a Troll, something that shouldn't be fed.. Ok, now I'll catch the lights.
