  1. You really screwed the pooch on that one.
  2. Guessing, Chemically colder with salt, more expansion pressure, higher spalling risk? Matt
  3. Is it a load bearing wall? Is there a beam resting on top of the wall at that particular point? could be 5-10 2x4's bolted together there. I re-did my "wifes" kitchen/dining and her switches are about a foot and a half from the door way, we're used to it now but there were a bunch of 2xs there from an interesting framing detail over the stairwell. Matt
  4. Theres a politician (Cherokee Nation) here building about 40 houses for leasing.. 20 are done. I was next door at a supply house when I noticed that the OSB sheathing runs vertical, half have slick side in half have rough side in. Thier bricking/vinyl siding these bad boys, no building paper behind any of it. Vinyl windows, not even using that peal and stick flashing mobile home manufacturers use. They pour self Leveling concrete with footers being poured seperate wth no rebar connecting the 2. Ill try to get some pictures as they poured concrete monday, and today they are going to shingle the roof... Do yall see this much? Matt
  5. Sounds like the water line running from meter to house could be alot smaller then the water lines inside the house causing the larger lines in the house to be working similar to a tank. At first alls well then they bleed off their pressure faster then the service line refills them. Matt
  6. Does your ladder have a pulley and rope? Matt
  7. Replacement of the shower pan, 1k was the price suggested by the realtor or a contractor? What kind of material used? Tile floor I'm assuming if its 1964 Matt
  8. Terrence, Documentation I have not. Experience I have seen it. Rental complex, 6 houses per water meter. Rental units are on top of a hill, The city cut a main 6" water line about 2 miles away at the bottom of the hill. We were working on running a new line getting some sites ready when we turned on out 2 inch ball valve it was sucking air. The downflow of the water draining out of the line they cut was sucking the air. When you open a valve it sucks air back in making the meter spin in reverse while if you open a hot water valve inside the house, it will suck the hot water out of the tank causing the top element to "expire" when it contacts air while on. We replaced a few elements that day. Thats about the extent of my experience with it running backwards. Matt.
  9. To my last post, since I cannot view it... The meter was about 2 years old (1 year ago) unsure of the brand but it was also a 2" water meter Matt
  10. Water meters will flow backwards with reverse direction lowering the readout of gallons consumed. I learned this a little more innocently then you might think. Matt
  11. 3-23-10 Katen,Jim Horshoe Bend Rd.PDF How do you do yours Jim? Matt
  12. There's attic fans, then theres roof fans. or eve fans... or.... Those are lichens growing on shingles. Matt
  13. Quote: Originally posted by kurt The "sealant" is on the inside.....(?)...... Shellac is a near perfect vapor barrier; it's going to hold all the water in the wall. How do you imagine that works? Even if you were going lime wash, you want it on the exterior, not the interior. It was kind of a joke, kind of not. Never had moisture problem in the piney woods of East Texas with it. Sitting at 70% humidity on a dry day. I dont know why we wouldnt have a problem with it and you would. But I do know we troweled on plaster on the inside and shellaced it and the wall was dry as a bone on the inside. Then again I dont know why this would affect it, but anything built with block was full of concrete 100%. There is no hollow block in my book. Matt Just thought I'd comment since I had forgotten all about that. If you misunderstood, the plaster isnt a wash. Its applied with a hawk and trowel. from 1/16 to 3/16 thick on the flat spots of the block.
  14. Lime based water plaster sealed with shellac on INSIDE of block. Thats the only thing I know Matt
  15. If its just a standard timer, you can buy them from Lowe's or Locke's for relatively cheap. Under 50 bucks? Matt http://www.lowes.com/SearchCat...tt=timer PS: Haven't seen one since I moved from Texas, what part of town was it in?
  16. Is R-22 the refrigerant in automobiles? If so, is it changing also? Just curious, Matt
  17. Could the Tyvec be a skirt to prevent blown-in insulation from falling down through the hatch? AFAIK, the presence or lack of a hatch in the neighbor's ceiling is irrelevant. The firewall is required to slow the spread of fire through the attic. Yes, you need the firewall, I was asking about the scuttle hole in both apartments because without a wall, better hope your neighbor is either honest or dumb. Matt
  18. Is attic accessible from both units? Matt
  19. Mike, I'm a carpenter not an electrician. I am trying to learn but I cant find anything about service drop running from one weather head to another in a "series" type. The service drop comes from the pole to first weatherhead, then to a second weatherhead. Each weather head is approximately 2 foot tall. Between the 2 weatherheads is about 25 foot in which the line sages to be 5-7 inches from the roof. I can't find if the line needs to be raised or if each mast should have its own line ran from pole. I DO know that if your weatherhead is on pole (service entrance underground to house), then this setup is fine. Sorry, Matt
  20. Yesterday was a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG day, looking back I should have posted the service wire is running from one weather head to another. Both weather heads are 3 foot from soffit running parrallel to ridge, but still about 20 feet from the ridge. Does this still apply to the 3 foot above ridge line or should each weather head have a seperate service line coming from pole? Thanks for your time, Matt
  21. I can find on www distances from poles to structures, but I have a line coming from a pole to a weatherhead, then from that weatherhead to another weather head, hangs 5-7 inches from metal roof....... I found one PDF stating 5 foot clearance above roof, and 24" from wire to fascia board (when entering a weather head mounted to side of building) But I dont think I have ever seen a 5' Mast on a house, thats alot of leverage for a 200A service weight Is there anything to be said? Or done? Thanks for your time, Matt
  22. Thanks Jim, Thats what I thought but w/o a book in front of me I wanted to run it past the guys I knew could tell me for sure. Thanks for your time Matt
  23. I do not have access to a 2008 NEC book, so I just ordered one. I cant find the answer to my question on google so I'd try the experts. EMT outside. A have an entire commercial complex of rentals that is ran with this metal conduit, I was told it passed inspection but I never knew it was code, theres no way its water tight. I think thier lying to me. Thanks if you could tell me off the top of your head. Matt I found something saying it would be alright with approve conductors.
  24. "But there is consensus among scientists. Consensus: majority of opinion It's explained here: The Consensus on Global Warming" There was a Consensus that the world was flat to. Or that something red is red, in actuality something red is everything but red. Matt
  25. So the Earth is said to be 4.5 BILLION years old.. 4,500,000,000 Scientists say in the past 150 years 150 They can tell a trend? I thought every 10 thousand years was the climax of the climate. I thought the sun went up and down in its journey around the milky way to the center causing us to get in hot and cool spots (ice ages and meltdowns) Were certainly not in an ice age climax, so are we still in the meltdown or have we begun the ice age leg of the run? Just my personl opinion, I don't believe scientists that are friends of polititicians Matt Global Warming is just a form of capitalism from people who claim they hate capitalism but know it's best. The sad thing is that there are many people incompetent enough they beleive every word some people can read from a teleprompter. Al Gore, What's your electric bill? Most likely your electricity is produced from coal fired plants. Scientists also said CO2 levels were 5 times the current levels when dinosaurs were around. CO2 is consumed by plant life, They need to survive dont they?
