  1. Maybe "Typical Wiring Diagram," does not mean required or recommneded?
  2. Do I have this right? If skinny breakers are used they should be located at the bottom of this panel and not just anywhere? Click to Enlarge 27.88 KB Click to Enlarge 47.58 KB
  3. Great story, Mike. You are lucky and knowing that you're lucky is even better.
  4. The roof plane with the higher water volume gets cut last. The watershed/water volume is a combination of roof area and pitch. The charts I have seen to calculate the run off volume have been with gutter sizing. I googled this table for calculation and I think it is consistent with what I read some years ago. http://www.finehomebuilding.com/how-to/ ... stems.aspx http://books.google.com/books?id=IqTmIG ... of&f=false
  5. I'll have to try Gorilla tape.
  6. Don't use tape at seams unless it's easy to get to. Use hose clamps or rivets. As they say, duct tape works great on everything except ducts.
  7. Dryer ducts have no clearance requirements from combustibles so I see nothing wrong here as far as the duct is concerned. If the duct is over heating as you suspect, someone needs to seriously evaluate the dryer and the duct system.
  8. It looks like this is pertaining to organic and not fiberglass mat shingles.
  9. This is a Lear Siegler, SS# 3034873 It looks like it's from the 70's so I'll go with 1973 but does anyone know the exact age? Searching around, I believe this company eventually became Nordyne? which I've never heard of either. Click to Enlarge 49.28 KB
  10. My experience is, the more you report, the more enemies you make. Sam, are you a real estate agent and a home inspector?
  11. Nancy Ouch. Actually, her name is Sheila. I forgot to mention. Lift with your legs. Here is a good illustration. Click to Enlarge 68.44 KB
  12. Chicago's southside. $900 - $1,200 for 100 amp. $1,200 - $1,500 200 amp.
  13. My 32' is at my sister's house. I only use it if a helper comes with me. Those things were heavy when i was young. Set the feet against something sturdy like the base of the house and walk it straight up. You have to carry it straight up plumb and it better not be windy. If the top starts to tip it's "Oh Mommy" time. I can reach nearly every roof with my 24'. If I can't, I use binoculars and disclaimers. Carey's cartoon is hilarious.
  14. Jim, would you happen to have that 1983 CABO reference # and perhaps the text? Was that just for veneer?
  15. I’m working on a report to illustrate that steel lintel failure from rust starts at the upper corners of a fenestration where the steel takes longer to dry out. Some over zealous masonry boys are calling for lintel replacement all around the second floor of a building when the problem is a parapet failure working down and not a lintel failure working up. Thanks for any photos. It is appreciated.
  16. Construction Adhesive?
  17. It could be the drying out of building materials into a shut up house. Warm moisture trapped during the day migrating up and cooled at night. Repeating daily for 2 years. How was interior wood work? Wavy floors? Basement or crawlspace?
  18. Plummen said, "can it be easily reached from open window?" There'a an inherent danger in service conductors being within reach of persons from a window. Marc I understand but the question was about the code distance from the window. When you get nipped, as I was, you can start taking code requirements literally. 30" from the upper side of a window can not be "easily reached," by anyone. It's still wrong and I'm writing it up.
  19. Can't tell but if you follow it down, there might be a crack in the foundation. Was there?
  20. I'll venture to guess they never replaced the lintels at all in last photo. It looks like the symptom was addressed but not the problem.
  21. Bill, thanks. Perfect. I was having trouble locating some of my own photos. Here are some of my own. Click to Enlarge 101.24 KB I'm still searching my archives. Click to Enlarge 86.34 KB Click to Enlarge 115.39 KB
  22. I am looking for anyone to share photos of steel lintel failure from rust, and adjacent brick and mortar failure, for a case I am working on. If you can post or email me, that would be appreciated. It does not have to be hideous failure but just some examples. mikelamb2930@comcast.net
