ramdino Posted May 22, 2013 Report Posted May 22, 2013 Here we have a nice patio for recreation and apparently taking naps ,long naps. Look at the outlet for the gas log fireplace. Little close for consumption don't cha think? Click to Enlarge 34.54 KB
Marc Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 Yeah, though people don't bask in the sun very much when the patio is buried in snow. I'm on the fence as to whether I'd write it up. Marc
Jim Katen Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 I'd warn them to keep their kids away from the hot vent when the fireplace is running - on the other hand, if a kid were to touch it, he'd learn a valuable lesson that would serve him well for the rest of his life. Who am I to take that away from him? As for the vent gases, I wouldn't be too concerned about it. They dissipate very quickly outdoors.
Hearthman Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 that is a gas direct vent fireplace. Most mfrs. make a listed cage to protect from impacting the hot termination. They are not fool proof and the cage can get hot but not as hot as the termination itself. In some cases, I've seen where they re-routed the vent vertically but it would have to be done per mfrs. specs. See the listed instructions. Think of this as a spelling tutorial-those kids will be the first in their class to spell "hot"...
Erby Posted May 23, 2013 Report Posted May 23, 2013 It's a good way for kids to learn the meaning of HOT!
