Mike Lamb
I have never seen anything like this. It looks like an early attempt at a ventless fireplace. Click to Enlarge 54.34 KB
AHI in AR
Looks totally realistic to me. Unfortunately they logged the last perforated trees around here in the in the 1920's so they're just sort of a legend... Seriously, though, I've never seen logs like that either. Click to Enlarge 54.34 KB That's one odd ball setup. I have never seen gas feeds like the ones you have under these logs. Do you think that the home owner purchased the logs and never bothered to remove the bag?
Hearthman
The ANSI Z21.11.2 standard for unvented room heaters dates back to 1962. The Oxygen Depletion Sensor safety pilot did not come into general use until around 1980. This is probably an early gas appliance designed to burn manufactured gas such as from coal gasification. Regardless, it is wholly unsuited for use now.
Erby
Someplace in my files, I've got pictures of logs just like that. Been a long time ago, though. 8 - 9 years or so.
