Chinese Drywall

I'm a commercial appraiser in CA & I also appraise single-family homes. What is your industry teaching about this issue and where can I get some first hand information from professionals like your selves about what to look for, how to spot problems caused by this drywall, etc.

Any help or information would be appreciated!

Hello John,

This site has some pretty decent information and some photo's. As a home inspector, we are typically non destructive, so testing of the drywall is out of the question(for me anyway). I don't believe there is a simple "swab" type test to offer clients that might reveal Chinese drywall. Some of the pictures on the attached website link illustrate what symptoms might arrise with Chinese drywall present.

Rob has pretty much nailed it with his post. As the particulars of this issue are still in the discovery stage, no certified training or standardized testing procedure is yet available. Hopefully, that will change soon. In the meantime, the story of chinese drywall is unraveling.
