  1. The limit was actually set on the server and it was only 2MB I upped it to 16MB for now. This software is different than the old obviously... before if the image was large it would make a thumbnail and link to the larger image that also was restrained in size. This software is similar except there is no restraint on the larger image that I can find at this point. How big of an image should we allow so it doesn't bother users that open them is the question? Not worried about storage or bandwidth really we have 12,000.00 MB storage set now and we can up it. We are around 3,000MB.
  2. Your site content is duplicated on the tripod site as well as the framed domains that hold your pages. You need unique content on each site for it to help... otherwise it hurts. It wasn't a problem 10 years ago... but it is now. I usually use copyscape.com to check for dups. Michael
  3. Chad, Your site content is all backed up. Go here and pick starter hosting package: http://nitroshock.com/hosting/ On the domain page select "I will use my existing domain and update my nameservers". Update your name servers to: NS1.nitroshock.com NS2.nitroshock.com BTW: I also noticed a bit of content was copied to your activerain.com blog. So you need to remove from there or create some new. Let me know after you update your name servers and I will finish the rest. Michael
  4. Right Mike? Yeah. Right Mike? Marc You really need some photos on your site still... send some plz. Right?
  5. I backed up your site already and put webmaster tools on your old site to check the status. I also looked into some of the other issues mainly the duplicate content problems and all those broken links. All the content needs to go through copyscape... The tripod site is a duplicate of yours and the radon domain needs to be 301'ed to the site. The photo gallery on the tripod site can be easily and quickly reproduced in the wordpress site but we need to save it down first? Got access? BTW: This link doesn't work kentuckyhomeinspections.com Upon closer inspection it appeared that this wasn't going to be as quick as I hoped. I think the best way is to put up a dummy site for the design and content and export it when done and then move your site over that way it's only down for a day. Right?
  6. Chad I have you on a Windows server using .net and I can put up a Windows theme on it, but I think I should move you off to WordPress on a different server. Last update on the blogengine was over 1 year ago and it just doesn't have all the plugins and easy to use options WordPress does (and never will). It means moving your email also... you would have to save down all your email. Right?
  7. Thanks everyone for your kind words! WordPress lets you control your content as well as some of the design. These days you need a responsive design that works on mobile as well as desktop. Unfortunately a custom one of a kind responsive site ends up costing way too much. Many of the others for sale are heavily bloated and nobody wants to wait 90 seconds for your website to load on a Mobile 3G connection (test them here: https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/). I created a WordPress theme (http://slydeways.com) that we use. It was heavily tested and finished a couple weeks ago. I don't have time to make any custom ones right now anyway. You can alter much of it colors/backgrounds etc. in the customizer (a point and click interface) and WordPress widgets etc. For now the theme is only 125.00 for anyone else that wants a copy also (contact me as I haven't put it up live for purchase/download yet). We use the contact 7 forms plugin for scheduling inspections. We also offer decent fast hosting starting from 9.95 a month (www.nitroshock.com). You can signup today and be working on it by tomorrow. If you do all the content in WordPress yourself, setup is about an hour but plan on about 6 hours by the time your all done (somewhat dependent on what you can do yourself). We are also a Google Partner and manage adwords as well as bing ads etc. if needed later. Michael Brown DevWave Software Inc. 1-888-739-4033
  8. For your own website it would mean removing the link: site by littlegreencube or changing it to read: site by littlegreencube For your forum signature: Use: http://www.kurtmitenbuler.com/ or kurtmitenbuler Don't use "Chicago Home Inspector" etc. as the anchor text for your website link. Hope that helps explain a little better. Michael
  9. Google has updated their link schemes guidelines to include: That means those site credit links in your footers and sidebars that say "site design by ****" etc. are included. Remove those links or add a nofollow tag to them is the recommendation. This was also recently backed up by Google's engineer: Revisiting some old info on link schemes but relating to forum signatures and posts (mentioned as we still have a few doing it). For example: So what is acceptable? Your naked link or your brands keywords on your link. More info on link schemes: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66356 Michael
  10. Google announced on webmastertools that there will be changes regarding the ranking signals of mobile and non-mobile friendly websites sites. The change goes into effect April 21. This means that if your website isn't mobile friendly by April 21 you might not show up on top of the mobile search results. Home inspectors are one of the industries that could have a significant impact by this change. Google has put together a guide to help you get ready. https://developers.google.com/webmasters/mobile-sites/ Michael
  11. Lots of luck needed... market research and saturation would have been better than luck tho... way before this anyway... If not BS ... sad really... Michael
  12. Yup! Those template sites for inspectors were useless years ago and now if you use some duplicated text you get nothing good from it and maybe a penalty. What really bugs me about that template he used is the spammy text and links at the bottom. Lowering the uniqueness of all the pages and passing the link juice back to the template maker. Is he paying them money on top of that for hosting or the use of the template? The hosting is lame and so is the template so why put up with the spam? It's a new site and not mobile optimized... why are they even still even selling the template anymore (it's completely obsolete useless junk now IMO) REALLY? He's not a web expert and doesn't know any better, but they certainly do! I wouldn't be so harsh about it if it was built by these guys 3-4 years ago... but this is fresh? I'm still worried about him tho, as now he says: "mobile version of the website shortly"... not sure what they are selling him now, but he wants one RESPONSIVE site not a mobile and a desktop site and another new bill. There are a ton of free themes that are way better than that if you go WP. DON'T have them mobilize that same site at your cost! Michael
  13. I manage adwords account in an agency interface (MCC). This explains the 'request to be managed' pretty much (read description): It takes a while to find a good host and I spent a few months researching to find the one we have. We have a reseller account and can host you if you want here (http://nitroshock.com/). I'm just finishing up my WP theme design. Here's a link with the speed scores for server and WP theme: http://slydeways.com/the-need-for-speed/ Those scores are extremely hard to beat for anyone. You can test any one of the top 100 selling themes on themeforest yourself and I bet I beat every one of them. Many of them you will wait over 30 seconds on 3g with mobile before seeing anything but a blank white screen. My target was under 3 seconds but I'm under 2 on most tests. Colors, backgrounds etc. are controlled from customizer panel (no css to code). http://slydeways.com/customize/ I can get you a copy of theme also (it's not beta but pre-release). You don't really want to use the one that came with WP but there are many others for sale. Just make sure you test them first and not just like the look of them (ie. the amazing looking website with every feature and plugin that most clients will abandon while waiting to load on mobile). If you want to move hosts make sure you have everything backed up someplace first. Michael
  14. I took a look at your site Marc... needs a full rebuild obviously. I also found what I guess what was your old site or remnants of it still up there. I'm really confused as why do all your new WP pages link to .fatcow.com (not sure why but that has to be fixed)? Not sure if this is part of your hosting or not. The host server response time is a little slow (every test was over .7 seconds and couple were over 1). Maybe send your host an email and ask about the http://sherlockinspection.fatcow.com/?page_id=24 (why the .fatcow.com part?) My WP sites are setup to automatically apply security updates and that might be an option with these guys also? PM your adwords Customer ID (make sure its adwords and not express) and I will send you a request-to-be-managed for approval. I don't see much point in spending money there until your site is fixed tho. I'm really way too busy to take on any new work right now but maybe I can help you get setup again so you can take back over. Michael
  15. He's too new to get any organic results yet... next year. His PPC is set to a 35 mile radius... and probably needs some tweaking. If your using real adwords (not adwords express) make sure you have all the other areas you are willing to drive listed as keywords also. In your adwords campaign settings under targeting use: "People in, searching for, or viewing pages about my targeted location" That will pick up anyone searching for an inspector in that area even if not searching within the 35 miles... make sure you don't exclude other areas. You could just create another campaign for it also. Check your pages on http://www.copyscape.com ... keep them 100% original. Check home and services pages as they need to be more original (hope you didn't pay for that). Make your schedule inspection link stand out more... move from busy clutter or make it a button. Need white space around. The site is NOT mobile friendly? Don't make any new web sites that aren't mobile friendly... bad for seo now. Google is sending warning to everyone now that isn't mobile friendly. (see responsive website) Not sure about hosting either... no compression or caching? See google test (edited broke link just paste in url): https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/ IMO: Get a decent host and use wordpress. Spammy links and crud in footer! Yuk... remove that crap (you would be doing Market Hardware a favor also and there's nothing of theirs worth protecting anyway)! That kind of crap really gets me unless it's free hosting or something like that! Remove all: "Base Content Copyright 2015 Market Hardware, Inc. Additional text content Copyright - Websites and SEO for Home Inspectors by Market Hardware" Wonder if the "Base Content Copyright" is what I picked up in copyscape LOL! Two emails addresses instead of one... just use one for biz and another for personal (leave personal off site). About page images/logos need work or replacement. Optimize all images. 90 day 200%? Doesn't "imply confidence" to me but I will leave that to others to comment on. If I do more I will have to bill you. Michael
  16. One of our inspectors has left the biz and his domain names and website are for sale. The website was done a few years ago with no recent updates but still ranks okay. portlandoregoninspection.com portlandoregoninspector.com Make an offer on the names (website comes with). Michael Brown DevWave Software Inc. 1-888-739-4033
  17. They are using PPC to get inspections (like booking.com and hotels). I can setup adwords or bing/yahoo ads for you or anyone else in your own name and account if you want. I also have the spend 100 and get 300 free coupons... but you have to spend the 100 within 14 days to get it (new accounts only). A brand new website isn't going to make it to page 1 in a competitive area unless you use PPC. Your website still has to be compelling enough to get them to convert though. Michael
  18. Blood & Champagne There are some pretty interesting home images collected up from around the web and posted on: www.bloodandchampagne.com Enjoy, Michael
  19. I guess somebody missed this post back in 2012 (maybe someone nuked link) but erobinsc and JustMitch are same ip... it seems easy to spot them after this many years LOL. I guess it should be explained how Canvas does their product reviews? He dropped one here also: https://www.inspectorsjournal.com/forum ... C_ID=16057 Did you guys hear about this recently: http://searchengineland.com/seo-compani ... ews-172526 Michael
  20. Home safe was talked about here before: https://www.inspectorsjournal.com/forum ... C_ID=13561 https://www.inspectorsjournal.com/forum ... IC_ID=8940 https://www.inspectorsjournal.com/forum ... IC_ID=8010 Pretty sure we punted somebody from home safe for making fake posts and answering them on the board a few years ago. I'm no lawyer but can give you contact information for a company that is very good at finding prior art citations that can be used to invalidate patents. It's contingency basis, if they find prior art citations you have to pay. Playing poker one might think that's a fight that could end up invalidating the very patent and they may want to move on to easier targets. Telling them you don't have the funds to fight isn't what I would do first off. I would be letting them know how much it was going to cost them and the risks they take by engaging you. Patent trolls won't like that kind of fight, they want to intimidate you into settling and move on to the next victim. BTW: Patent infringement and copyright infringement are completely different. Let me know if you want the contact info? Michael
  21. Proceed with caution! Domain Name: INSPECTTOOLS.COM Record created on 20-Apr-2013 Registrant: wright, tiana ATTN INSPECTTOOLS.COM care of Network Solutions PO Box 459 Drums, PA 18222 US Her link was just nuked a couple days earlier: https://www.inspectorsjournal.com/forum ... 22. Update! Looks like Bob Kille's site has been hacked again as reported by Google. Users are warned once again to stay away from his websites. Click to Enlarge 11.13 KB Michael Brown
  23. I really like the look, menus etc. but... no text content on the front page for SEO or clients, and no title tags for SEO. SEO is not very good at all. Maybe you don't need new clients in your area? I would also switch out the get a quote with a book an inspection now form and call to action button. And now I want to see the whole car ... LOL! Michael
