  1. Could be distance and/or camera angle, but are there lifted shingles at top left and middle left of roof? It's the translation from camera to downscaled quality jpg.
  2. The rafters are longer than the ridge board as shown in the picture. Are there any long term conditions that one should worry about with this? TIA Download Attachment: Attic.jpg 137.03 KB Download Attachment: Home.jpg 184.38 KB
  3. I'm slow - really slow. It doesn't help when your anchor city is voted the poorest in the nation. Thankfully my wife is doing well in her career. What a long strange trip it's been...
  4. I've been building computers since the 80's, it's really very easy to do. The best place to buy your computer parts is New Egg ->http://www.newegg.com/ Great service as well as great prices.
  5. The TPR connection is interesting (and wrong).
  6. I called our Rheem rep here and asked about it. If you had a model number he could plug it in and be able to tell. He did talk a recall back in the mid to late 80's that involved heat exchanger replacements that ran for quite a few years. The was also a lifetime guarantee on heat exchangers, in some models however, the heat exchangers are no longer being produced so they are offering money to the people affected. He also gave me beginning of some model numbers that should raise a red flag. For Rheem: RGEV, RGEA, RGED, RGKA & RGJA. For Ruud replace R with U. These heat exchangers are the cell type. For Rheem: RGEC, RGED, RGKB & RGKC. For Ruud substitute R for U. These are for the drum style heat exchanger. Long story short, there might be a problem but without a model numbers he has no way of knowing. Hope it helps a little.
  7. Thanks for the morning laugh Bill.
  8. Came across this disclaimer in my software: This inspection does not cover the presence or lack of wood destroying insects.
  9. Your're right. I couldn't put my finger on what looked so strange until I read your post and looked at the picture again.
  10. From that thread: Chrysler Air Temp: Age is shown by the first digit of the serial number and corresponds to the last number of the year of manufacturer. Example 0C893745 = 1970. 1 = 1971, 2 = 1972, etc. Use common sense and visual observation to distinguish decades from one another. I don't believe that Chrysler is still in production (or has been for quite some time).
  11. Same as Randy.
  12. The TRP drain line should discharge into the catch pan, which is under the hot water tank, and the drain pan should be piped to a drain. Congrats on your first inspection! With regards to people pulling you away, tell them that there is a method to your madness and to hold that thought, you will address it momentarily. I find that if I'm always being pulled away it's easy to forget where you left off.
  13. Two things that are always in need of adjustment. See wife or girlfriend. I know, I know, grade school humor.
  14. Eh? What was that sonny?
  15. Hello Scott: Not sure if you belong to ASHI or not however, they have a nifty Radon checklist in the ASHI Documents & Forms area.
  16. I have a Goodman in my condo due to the fact that it was builders choice as well. There's a big reason builders use Goodmans and Armstrongs, they're cheap and for a reason. In our condo association we have already replaced several units and they're only ten years old. I'm not against low price, just low quality.
  17. Six of one, half dozen of the other. Both lower end furnaces. Trane or Carrier is a better way to go although they cost more.
  18. [:-bonc01]
  19. Glad you got it fixed Martin. Carbon Monoxide is bad stuff. BTW, did you have a Carbon Monoxide detector installed in your home?
  20. I'll admit that it is one of my weak areas and I'm always trying to improve upon it. What I try to do is not get long winded and drone on about something. I find that some love to impress others, with what they know, and will put in as many big words and looonnnnggg sentences to prove it. I try to write as if I was talking to the client, state what I found (a defect), why it's wrong and what needs to be done to correct it with as few words as possible. I find that if you do a good job in communicating with your client, on the job site, the report is more or less redundant. Your mileage may vary.
  21. No, that's why God created HVAC technicians.
  22. It's pretty good odds that the heat exchanger is shot. Don't waste anytime having it checked out and in the meantime I wouldn't use it.
  23. There's this one Randy -->http://www.valleymason.com/guides/images/cstoneinstall.pdf
  24. It always amazes me that some will go through extraordinary measures to make it wrong. Not to mention it's flat out ugly.
