With all do respect Phil sir. I have to admit that I enjoy coming to this site primarily to see what your day has brought you, the pics you post and the wonderful stories they tell. I can only hope that when I start inspecting homes, I have the same reason to go to work as you do; solving the mysteries created by utter incompetance, mishaps, greed and plain old bad luck . Thank you and keep posting (keep that respirator handy) Steve.

Hey guys, great pics of lintel problems. Where I live we use wood, and vinyl. If it is brick its not structural. Looking at the pics gives me a new respect and outlook when scoping out a wall, windows etc My grandfather emmigrated to Canada from Czechoslovakia in the mid 30 and took up roots and his business in Windsor, he was a Brick and Stone Mason. I wish I had spent a couple of summer with him, mom says he had hands like a bear. Old country and old school. Just rambling...

I also own a Barbershop (beside the Base eh?) never even thought of the hair building up in the dryer, until the circuit blew. I tore that sucker down to screws and rubber. I now clean that twice a year and replace the steel braided Washing Machine hoses every other year (yep had one blow on me too, thankfuly the concrete guy did his job) shhh I wasnt here.....back to my books.....

your second pic shows bigtime copper oxidization. If that was the 00 starter wire on any car, I would almost bet it would drag and slow the starter, very notcible IR drop. That wire is a 120v ac, at the panel, how far back can you measure the wire for loss. Any of that Chinease drywall? Good question. I found something similar just last week. The panel was installed on the exterior wall of an 8" x 16" CMU building. I assumed condensation was forming on the neutral lug because the hots were better "insulated" by the plastic. Why is only the one lug covered in corrosion. Unbalanced panel? To close to the left coast?

LA Affirms Only 1 Year to Sue Home Inspectors

Great read. Great work on his part. Did it sound like he defended himself, or is that me? -
two factors that would influence thermal loss in this style. 1. recirculation of air, air exchanger. I have a 10' return at the top of the loft 2. tapestries, I dont have them hanging in the great rm and I bloody well should. Beyond a wood stove thats almost it (I already covered hydronic). I went to Tapestry Barn but it was to small

thanx, not as practicle as I thought, but, it looks great with 12' christmas tree in the great rm.....keep warm edited: largest ceiling fan on the market is installed,,,next time buy the remote cotrol model arghhh

I live in a Taylor Creek Home (google it in Beaver Lumber Cottages). The great room is 17'x12'x22' cathedral ceiling, wide open on one side, which leads tot he Dining rm and Kitchen, also cathdral ceiling. I made the decision to install an Air Source Heat Pump. I have great return system and a cross flow filter. What I realy need now is a humidifier to put some humidity in the air. My floors are red pine and the ceiling are white pine. They suck alll the moisture out of the air. This is my 4th winter. Without the wood stove I would probably be broke. Still working on making it better. The heating unit works well, what I didnt figure largley into the equation was the amount of windows the facade has. 6 windows cover the whole front. They cover at least 80% of that wall, over 100sqf of glass...They are good windows, but it is glass, R??? Its still cheaper than bunker oil. I wanted to go hyrdonic radiant flooring etc, but there is no one around here, at the time, who does the install. I would explain this scenario to anyone buying this style home, in this temp zone... This pic shows a walk-out basement. Which I dont have thankfully. Click to Enlarge 5.53 KB

Holmes Is At It Again - This Time Over Grow-Ops
Stephen D. Gazo replied to hausdok's topic in Environmental Hazards
Never thought I would lose track, maybe a little to close to home, since Market Place walked into the Ontario division of CAHPI and set them up for failure. I earlier said, that 'unless I saw the house I cannot comment on what they saw' or to their conclusion. I feel educated just by watching the show. But this bashing of home inspestors is old hat for mr mike, having Market Place give him an open forum stinks. Its just so handcuffing, especially since I just seriously started to focus all my skills sets in to HI. His actions through the TV media placed my associations credibility into question. The association has enough of its own problems. So I have no voice, the association is in the can, Mike Homes and CBC want home buyers to spend 2-3 thousand dollars for a very invasive inspection, each time you list. He continues to spew his own dogma. I am not envious, I could not in good concious do what he is doing, on tv. I have also learned that as of now 4 out of the five so called inspectors had no affiliation with OAHI. One guy claimed to be an engineer, nope, he even had a court order telling him to stop calling himself one. In Ontario you have to be registered as an Engineer (PEng). So, on the face of what we know,, what the !@#$$ is going on. -

Marc, you may have not seen it, but by using Mike in their set up and then the reporter goes over to OAHI offices makes Mike part of it. If only for Market Place to make it point. Thats collusion (spelling?), he is guilty by association, as would you or I if we decided to go along with 'Fifth Estate' style of journalism. -

The Board of Directors of OAHI resigned before Christmas...as I am only a student within its ranks, I can only feel that that was the final salvo of incompetance. In-fighting/desention, turf wars and piety has allowed the death warrant be signed...Mike's performance sealed the deal. It appears I am on a rudderless ship....crap. -
you werent supposed to eat the gravel, now you need that toilet that flushes golf balls... can you get a spark off your granite abs, that would be cool campfire trick....send video

Holmes Is At It Again - This Time Over Grow-Ops
Stephen D. Gazo replied to hausdok's topic in Environmental Hazards
I watched it, actually the association sent us a mass emailer. My problem with Mr. Holmes is that he just has a hate on for Home Inspectors. I am only a student in and I can see he is talking out his ass. One man cannot walk into a home and find everything. Should he have found the holes, sure, the mould, yep. Does all of this point to a grow op? I would have had to be there to properly asses that home. But he did it and now millions of people hate HI's...nice editing... Can an Inspector draw that conclusion, that it was a grow op? The RA didnt disclose, the home owner didnt disclose (jail?). The shots of them standing on the ladder pointing at a very small amount of surface mould (camera editing). I seriously think that 'Market Place' found this family and had Mike come in to stir the pot (no pun intended). The HI that killed me was the one who looked at the fireplace and was non pulsed by the hole through the floor under the grate , he said 'you dont plan on using it, right'. 'Hey Mike lets secretly have a group of people you hate/detest come into this house and see if they can find the major problem. 5 Inspectors missed it, which then asks the question, how good was the repair job. Each time Mike asked the Home Owner what the HI said. Well I dont care what he said. I want to see what he wrote down, and what they submitted for all to see,,,the REPORT! I am also a licensed mechanic, so I have gone through this shady mechanic, sleazy , grease monkey parts changer scene name calling bullshit before. I was also a soldier, and because some have done shit that is not cool we all get painted with that brush. Its not fair and all it does is give Mike an open forum My point, without using Mike, is this. It does not matter what trade you do, there is likely an idiot who wrote and passed the exam. There will also be somone with an axe to grind and they will stop at nothing to get their way of thinking, regardless of accuracy. Makes me mad. Market Place used Mike and this event to demonstrate that Mike wants you to use his HI formula, which would only be useful to the homeowner. The buyer would never be able to have a house inspected to his standard, because if I am selling my house I wont let you. end rant...................breath -
well, obviously its the muscle I am adding canceling out the fat loss, lets check back in two weeks. I have been shovelling snow for two weeks straight, I am also building two Luge style snowsled runs in my backyard...pics to follow

The Dutch are known for hiding rooms and people, anyone remember Anne Frank. I was in Amsterdam and saw first hand how well they concealed the upper room. They never would have found her if not for the windows. Notice how narrow and the angle of the steps, they got used to building straight up, as re-claimed land was scarce so the only way to build was up. Too cool, good find...

That's where I draw the line. I've played this game and won three times before. Never once did I resort to drinking watered down cougar piss in place of that wonderful Canadian nectar in those pretty BLUE cans. Remember, there's a pork chop in every bottle. Besides that, if you have to drink ten, how many calories are you really saving? Isn't that like buying gas with ethanol? It costs the same, your mileage goes down and you end up buying more. What's the point? ..because you get tired of heading off to the bathroom so many times. I was with you, never going to change to a light beer. I lost weight, cut down on my drinking overall and dont mind coors light, its great in fruit loops or at coffe break...

Best beer was in Germany, Schwartswald. Biberac Schloss. They called it a 7 minute Pilsner, on tap. Your ordered two exports and your Pilsner,,have yet to taste anything close...by the way its in the worlds oldest Gasthoff at around 1400 years old. Great beer takes time.
