  1. Looks decent. Lots of text which is cumbersome if I'm trying to figure out how to know you better. I was curious and clicked on the Virtual Tour video. I watched for about 30 seconds and tried to click off--it stuck and I couldn't get rid of it. I'm using Chrome browser--maybe it's that. Edit: one more thing: personally, I like the term profession rather than industry. We're not cranking out widgets (maybe some of us are, though.)
  2. That's all I know how to do. Nothing. At least for me. Sure. Credibility and knowledge. I guess those things are what makes someone "competent." One could also add honesty and experience. Sounds like you're on a hunt to find something more heady. Take Camhoin (sp?) to lunch.
  3. I understand. . .that's what I was getting at the first time. If anyone has seen those reports, I would think it'd be the guys at Environix. Not pitching them. . .just an idea. They're smart.
  4. Not if your attic or crawl space is covered with it.
  5. A good part of their presentation is providing case studies of recent projects in which they've been involved--mostly single and multi-family projects. Their solutions involve stuff we talk about here all the time dealing with solving building moisture problems, especially in attics. They're anti-testing unless it's required by some insurance company or the like. They are hell-bent on finding the cause of the problem, not treating the symptom. They don't up-sell services or products. Their principle (James) presents very well and seems very well-versed in the current state of mold stuff--more so than me. Their #1 field guy, (I forget his name) always present with James--he's the hands-on dude in the field. He's also very intelligent and speaks the jargon that makes sense. The two times I've attended their stuff, I was skeptical and ready to busy my mind with other more important things; however, they kept me in there and taught me a few things. They're not scheisters. . . at least I don't get that feeling.
  6. If you're really bored, try contacting the boys at Environix here in Seattle. They've presented a few times at some local ASHI stuff and they're gaining a bit of credibility in my book.
  7. The drawing at the upper right middle of the page . . . with the blue water in it. The drawing says the "Wye and 1/8th bend or combo prohibited" IRC Table P3005.1 (page 631) says "Combination wye and eighth bend" OK for horizontal to vertical change in direction. Somebody find a better drawing. . . .
  8. What am I missing. . . ? The drawing on that page sez combos are not allowed from horizontal to vertical. IRC allows it, so does UPC.
  9. Oh. . . the original poster's questions . . . Insulation all the way to the floor. If you don't want to investigate if your floor is stiff enough, add a layer of 5/8" or 3/4" plywood, then cement backer. Make sure you'll be ok with the lip on the floor created by the added plywood though. Vapor retarder/barrier. . . ? That's a bit more tricky. . . go to buildingscience.com. I'm sure they've got a good wall detail for your climate.
  10. I don't run any calc's but I do do the highly scientific tests on floors sometimes. . . I bounce on them. The 2 x 6 T&G "car decking" subfloors hardly ever rattle the dining room table. "Modern" system usually do. Jim mentioned girders on 4' centers. I often seem them on 5' or 6' centers.
  11. Now that's cool and I'd love to learn how to do that. Trouble is I'm having a hard enough time keeping up with my current workload without throwing that in.
  12. Thank you so far. The circuit is a 120v supply for the natural gas range. One can see the empty breaker below the top one in the pic--the original intention was to have a 240v electric range. I couldn't i.d. the exact wire size. Anyone have good tricks for that if there's no visible marking on the cable? Douglas--see you this weekend in Seattle at the ASHI WW seminar. Jim--you going? Anyone else going?
  13. Is this Al wire ok in this breaker terminal? Click to Enlarge 49.64 KB Do the markings on the breaker imply solid conductor wire only? Click to Enlarge 50.25 KB
  14. Looking to get a pad computer. Nothing against ipad, I've just got too much invested right now in the Android system. I'm with Sprint so I'm even more limited to their offerings. Anyone have thoughts on pads from Sprint?
  15. Thread resurrection #2. I came across the same stuff as Jim K's product from 5 years ago. Anyone ever get any definitive answers? FWIW, I actually see this stuff once or twice a year around here. With exception of today's inspection, the siding does remarkably well. Click to Enlarge 41.23 KB Click to Enlarge 50.94 KB

  17. Why is that wall there? Privacy?
  18. I know it's late but what about Google Calendar? It's free. My wife and I have our coordinate and sync our schedules on it and it works just fine. I don't see why it wouldn't be able to handle 4 or more peoples' scheules.
  19. I don't operate them. I just feel them by wrapping my hands and fingers around them. Sometimes, it's easier to find a leak/drip if my fingers are wet than being able to see it.
  20. Try this: http://www.hud.gov/pub/chums/f17fvc/203k.cfm I'm not quite sure what "endorsed" means. I suspect it's that point when a lender actually funds a 203k loan and FHA "endorses" the loan and insures it. However, it's the gov't. That's too logical.
  21. Yes, very busy. It's probably about 75% of my work load right now. I understand the getting started part. It's tough. You don't know if all the effort will pay off. It might be worth it to do a little bit of research to find out how much 203k activity is actually in your area. I can almost guarantee if there's a lot of activity, the lenders and would welcome a competent inspector that can do good paperwork and really spearhead the 'K' for them.
  22. Anyone have any good war stories yet or have questions about getting up and running?
  23. In my opinion, a succesful website is a good combination of pics, graphics, and text; something to create visual interest, eye candy. Bain's site does a good job with eye candy. . . . Add some fun stuff, Marc. Whoop it up!
  24. Hmm, what comes to mind when I see that? It sure seems like we're chasing Nick's tail (yet again). Click to Enlarge 12.3 KB I took the survey. The whole logo thing is silliness and pointless. I made comments to that effect in the survey I basically brushed the whole thing behind me until I saw this. That's really pathetic. The folks that designed the new logo didn't check InterNACHI's logo?! Dumb. Really dumb.
