  1. You definitely don't want Holy Water getting into the public water supply! It might cause an outbreak of Peace! [:-yuck]
  2. That's funny, my wife just called to tell me how hot it was in work today. She might want the heat turned on by . . . January.
  3. Wonder when these regulations will catch up to anybody on a roof? Drove by three roofing jobs today, as expected not a single person tied off. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/10/0 ... ?igoogle=1
  4. Some people have way too much time on their hands. Actually though, the middle dormer is a little suspect...
  5. Of course I did neglect to mention that the coping doesn't look like its coping very well.
  6. What is your concern? My understanding is that the shotcrete is porous anyway, the plaster is the waterproof liner (expected life 20 yrs) and needs to be replaced. The concrete is reinforced and as long as you keep the pool water out of it the crack you show doesn't look that bad. The efflourescence could indicate some seepage at that crack for a while or exposure (rain) collected along the crack. Does the pool leak there? Gross oversimplification, as I don't know all the steps involved. Recommend further evaluation.
  7. Yeah, but it uses less bricks that way.javascript:insertsmilie('[:-monkeyd')
  8. G2427.6.10 (503.6.12) Marking. In those localities where solid and liquid fuels are used extensively, gas vents shall be permanently identified by a label attached to the wall or ceiling at a point where the vent connector enters the gas vent. The determination of where such localities exist shall be made by the code official. The label shall read: “This gas vent is for appliances that burn gas. Do not connect to solid or liquid fuel-burning appliances or incinerators.â€
  9. That's because you own it now, so we can knock down all the walls you want.
  10. That's how you identify spray paint colors after you loose the lid.
  11. Very brave of you. When you plug one end of an extension cord into its opposite end. . . What do you expect it to do?
  12. Ha, Gary, I like the lemonade metaphor. My thoughts exactly. I'm not really worried about it. I said my piece and let it go at that. The question was really about diplomacy or maybe tact would be a better word (how to say, not what to say). My wife assures me I lack both. I have no desire to get into a pissin' match with anybody, but curiously I can and do quite easily. Someone once said, "People won't remember what you say, but they will remember how they felt." I am often remembered, I'm just tryin' to improve my average.
  13. Evaporator starvation Evaporator icing Low/no airflow (blower) Insufficient cooling High compressor pressures (discharge) Low suction pressure Ultimately Compressor failure Same end result as a low refrigerant charge.
  14. Sure looks 'jury' rigged to me. The lack of a bonafide coupling betwen two dissimilar sized pipes makes it 'un-approved' to me. I believe the smaller appliance (water heater) joins a shared flue (chimney) above the larger furnace - for draft reasons.
  15. G2414.10.2 (403.10.2) Tubing joints. Tubing joints shall be made with approved gas tubing fittings or be brazed with a material having a melting point in excess of 1,000ºF (538ºC) or made with press-connect fittings complying with ANSI LC-4. Brazing alloys shall not contain more than 0.05-percent phosphorus. Doesn't say why. Joints that melt at low temperatures could be it though.
  16. If the system has a blocked 'safety eye,' there's no reason for it to come down at all. If that system (safety eye is working.) It is easy to disparage a whole group of people when you don't know who they are. It either works (intended function), or it doesn't. Hence the line, "Needs further evaluation by a qualified professional tradesman." Once you 'diagnose' the problem you open yourself up to be contradicted by "the last man in," who will be the guy who actually does the repair. Not very good for PR.
  17. For what it is worth, Wikipedia suggests that the downward force can be no more than 15 lbs. (bottom of article). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garage_door_opener The liability question always arises in my mind when I am asked questions like this. Best to recommend the Overhead Door Installers.
  18. Okay, how about "no science." I cannot fathom how you could possibly quantify third hand smoke.
  19. Personally, I don't think the lack of a railing adds to the aesthetics. Or, more poignantly, it looks stupid. Also looks like a trip hazard, recommend a railing!
  20. More stuff to worry about from the fear mongering, junk science, people pleasing crowd. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/08/2 ... 38241.html
  21. 15" to Center of toilet
  22. I have been following this thread very closely for my own personal, impartial edification. I haven't yet read a post 'bashing' anybody. It seems to me that the very act of accusing someone of 'bashing' anybody is just an emotional ploy of misdirection. Adds nothing to the dialogue. "Just the facts, maam."
  23. the electrical cable was supported from a shed to the house by a tree...doesn't seem quite right the buyer purchased her next door neighbors house directly...and thought she was getting a deal the buyer was an insurance agent and held her real estate license...a presumption of knowledge the purchased home was built without any permits whatsoever...like zero, nil, zip the normal sales process typically includes a home inspection and extensive disclosures...this one couldn't have the seller was a real estate agent... which was not disclosed it was evident that there were 2 large air ducts resting on a metal roof to a backyard walkway, exposed...hmmmm rather than the required 1500 gallon septic tank, this house has a 500 gallon septic tank...an inspection would have revealed this there is no electrical meter....really...no one noticed? Don't see nothin' wrong here . . . What's she upset about?[:-monkeyd
  24. Well you all are certainly preaching to the choir here. I concur with all those that expressed what a colossal waste of time it is to drain a water heater. On this occasion, however, the realtor was already well into his speil about water heater draining, so I was curious what YOU would SAY. I don't like to be the middle man, but I can't stand bad information being delivered under the guise of "knowledge." I don't know if the realtor was showing off, making small talk, or some kind of 'test' for me. If it was a test I guess I failed by virtue of 'shooting down' the realtor. I was gentle and not arguementative. So, what would you SAY under this scenario?
