    Would be great when your taking a nice hot shower and somebody flushes a toilet? Doubt if it would help the lifespan of all those cheap plastic flush & fill valves. My vote 'stupid.'

    Has anyone seen this kind of slate roof ridge treatment? Looks very odd to me, but I don't see that many slate roofs. According to the listing the roof was 'done' in 2005. Already shows damage along the eaves in several places. Click to Enlarge 40.21 KB

    Looks kinda' high! Urinal maybe? Could be alot more comfortable if they raised the floor around the toilet! Gives a whole new meaning to 'the throne on the dias.'

    My only familiarity with burning alcohol fuels are miniature steam engines. No visible or faint blue flame, good heat for steam boilers (better than pellets), no smell, CO2 fumes (no venting).     It looks like it is possible with iTunes. So you would buy the PC version pdf of the IRC. Install on PC and then transfer to iPad. Looks like the mac version pdf is simply an Ebook reader format for apple. There are lots of free conversion utilities available to convert pdf to e-book format for your Nook, Kindle, iPad, whatever... PDF to iTunes Transfer - 20.00

    Steve is correct in his definition of Bathroom, but the 2009 IRC wasn't applicable 15 years ago. It hadn't been written yet. What was the code then? I wouldn't call out stuff like that. If it had an outlet that wasn't GFCI, I'd point that out; but no outlet at all? Which makes me wonder what possible use you would have for an outlet in a tiny room meant only to relieve yourself and wash your hands. I'd be more concerned that it had an exhaust fan. Would you shave, blow-dry your hair, trim your mustache, run your curling iron, or just charge your phone?

    If, instead of grounds, these were 'hot' or 'neutral wires, would it be more wrong? Why do we use wire nuts to make connections? Why is the integrity of connections between ground conductors less important than the connections between un-grounded conductors? Could this be really 'sloppy work?'

    Well That's what I figured, and indicated as much, but I told them I'd check it out and confirm. It's in the ceiling, and not only out of reach (about a foot), but no key. Owner is recently deceased, so its quite possible the adult children (not present) took the key to prevent use.

    Thanks Jim and Bill. I am trying to figure out how or if NFPA 31 is incorporated in the Md Fire code. One assumes it may have been at one time or may still be, hence the many installations that have two disconnects. My 2006 copy of the MD fire code only shows it incorporates NFPA 1, Uniform Fire Code (2006 Edition) and NFPA 101, Life Safety Code (2006). So, does anyone have a quick synopsis of how these publications fit together or are organized?

    Does anyone know the origin of the convention which places a disconnect for the oil burner at the top of the basement stairs? Yesterdays inspection had one (1997), my parents had one (1914), but I've seen others both older and newer that only had the service disconnect on the furnace cabinet (required). Just curious.

    Don't know about a cloning program (don't like software), but I've had good success with merely adding the original drive to the new machine as drive D (or whatever) and simply copying the files from one drive to the other. 'Course if your hard drive 'dies' this won't work - but then your way beyond the cloning stage anyway. May void your warranty. If it's a laptop your 'cloning' I just use backup (does anybody make them) copies that I've created throughout the year.     X10 is still widely available and easy to install. Most commonly a home owner installed system comprises of simple plug in units, no wiring necessary. For the more advanced, switches and outlets can be wired directly and fit under standard wall plates. Fairly simple carrier current system that assigns a 'code' to each of the remote units. Biggest problem was line interference which either falsely triggered a remote unit or prevented triggering. A common dimmer switch could 'mimick' an x10 signal and cause triggering without the proper isolation.     You mean the switch is normally closed. The arm is holding it open. When water flows the arm moves and the switch returns to its normally closed state.

    Wrong hand as well. If it lasts that long. Ends abruptly, full measure of pain delivered instantly.
