Yup, PEX comes in many sizes and colors. Red for hot, blue for cold or white/opaque for generic. They even make yellow PEX (for gas).

How many of you guys carry check books or a large amount of cash with you at all times? I don't, so I don't expect my clients to either. I have been taking credit cards since day one. Include it in your fees, it's a cost of doing business. Nowadays, many places won't take checks. I don't walk around with a wad of cash (my wife would take it from me anyway), so I am left with plastic.

My brother in law had one of these fail a few weeks a go, it was only one year old. What happened was the condensate line backed up and killed it. The HVAC guy who installed it ran the condensate line outside to drip on the ground. Well, the condensate line iced up outside and backed the condensate water all the way back up into the unit. The owner of the company was out installing a new one and this time, he was reading the installation manual.

I dropped my 1 year old TK11 off the roof a couple of weeks back. The thing wouldn't turn on, so I bought a TK15. I really like the TK15, it's a great product. I was just getting ready to throw the TK11 away when I switched batteries (18650 rechargeable) to test it again - just for the heck of it. It turns out that the flashlight survived the fall but the battery did not. I didn't know the battery could fail from a fall! Now I have a backup TK11 for my awesome TK15.

I can tell you that my income changes from month to month and year to year. Ups and downs, just like the housing market. One month will be slim and then another slammed. Most new inspectors around here only last one year. They "may" have the knowledge they need to inspect, but do not know the ins and outs about marketing and business in general. Inspections are the "easy" part, the rest of the business is what can knock you off. Be prepared to literally starve for the first 2-3 years. If you don't have that much saved up to live on, you probably won't make it. Most businesses fail because they are underfunded. Just my .02 sense. Carl

Is there a water pressure or expansion tank on the system or water heater? That would hold enough to provide a fast flow until it was near empty, then trickle down to the flow rate of the main.

Yes, way too high. Were the TPR valves dripping? - Jim Katen, Oregon The TPR line was plugged[:-bigeyes. I know the pressure is way too high, I just wanted to know the reasoning from the Inspectors that don't check pressure. This definitely is a safety hazard and problems waiting to happen.

The heavy gauge wire is attached to the terminal bar and then of course, the emt clamp.

It's like the Chevy family that hates Fords. There are good, bad and lemons to all brands. I personally have seen very old Goodman stuff still working and 2 year old Trane equipment gone bad. I have heard technicians praising Carrier and some say it is junk. 90% of the life of the unit is dependent upon proper installation. For example, air flow calculations to keep the heat exchanger proper operating temperature and proper lineset sizing for the A/C condenser. Also, most brand loyalty is preference due to what people hear.

I've got Carbonite for a backup system. Unlimited backup storage space for $49 per year. Works great. Runs in the background and it is easy to see which files are backup by a dot placed on the file name.

HEY HOTWATERHEATER! Did you know that using all caps can be construed as yelling. As a Home Inspector, I'd expect your writing to be more professional.

My streamlight ultrastinger has been through it all. The worst I remember was rolling off a 15 foot high roof and smacking the concrete walkway below. I thought for sure that I had destroyed it. The trusty light worked fine, only the housing received a few more nicks. I am on my second battery; currently running one year (first one lasted 3 years). I have probably gone through about 7-8 bulbs. I do keep a small LED backup for when the battery goes dead. You sure can't beat the amount of light the ultrastinger puts out!

Well said Mike! When does it stop? What is so bad about allowing a company to take care of itself or fold? Its not up to us taxpayers to keep business afloat. People say "What about all the jobs". All I know, as more inspectors close their doors here, I have become busier. So if a manufacturer shuts down, the business will be shifted elsewhere, hence creating more jobs for the other company. Its the law of supply and demand, as long as there is a demand (population). A big factor is Labor; Toyota's costs hovers around $45 per hour when GM's labor costs are about $78 per hour. It is only a matter of time, even if they get their bandaid money, before it is facing bankruptcy again.
