Settlement Proposed in CSST Class Action Lawsuit
BADAIR replied to hausdok's topic in News Around The Net
I felt this may be of importance to all. Plumbers install this in Texas. http://www.pddocs.com/csst/faq.aspx For those in doubt of a possibly existing problem: http://www.selectinspect.com/pdf/FRISCO ... %20ban.pdf The ban on the installation of CSST was lifted once the cause of problems were traced to improper, non-existent, or faulty ground-bond-lightning protection. But that never made the news. Not meaty enough for the average consumer. I just happen to live in the highest lightning Flash Density Zone (FDZ) where this took place. Find Your Lightning Density Zone http://www.pddocs.com/csst/zonefinder.aspx Here is my boilerplate for reports and a mailing I am considering any editorial advisements would be appreciated. A gas piping system called Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing (CSST) is present in this home. Please read the CSST Settlement http://www.pddocs.com/csst/faq.aspx as relevant and necessary for the completion of this portion of your report. I advise further evaluation by a licensed electrician and the installation of any necessary safety enhancements regarding the proper grounding, bonding, and or lightning protection of this particular installation. Do you keep in touch with previous clients?
BADAIR replied to Inspector of the House's topic in Marketing Techniques
This is an example of what went out to clients, and all others that I have contact info for. Content is important but I thinks it is more about keeping you image in front of them. Out of sight out of mind. The ones that don't want to receive can block or have asked to discontinue, rarely happens and I have gotten some good feedback and jobs from this simple effort. Name this chimney?
BADAIR replied to BADAIR's topic in Fireplaces, Chimneys & Wood Burning Appliances
Thanks to all for replies. I was only inspecting the EIFS for insurance renewal. I brought the pots irregular configuration, more than one chimney present, and peeling parge to the owners attention as requiring evaluation by a professional before this seasons usage. We are just starting to get into the 30's at night and the smell of firewood is on the air. Silly me I thought parge was for making foundations look presentable, for a while, until it cracks and falls off. -
This is a great resource guide if you really want stucco info. Comes as loose leaf tabbed divided binder where you can add manufacture or other docs. and accompanying CD with all the info in indexed searchable PDF. I use, create boilerplates, and learn from it everytime I do a stucco job. I turned a builder onto it and he now refers to it as "The Rules" and laminated an onsite copy for his applicators. http://www.stuccomfgassoc.com/resource.html

David, Mike is right on about the book it's a must have and read for all inspectors. I would not try to alter the plug on the Ideal Sure Test, they've had problems with the plugs and cords, may adversely or inaccurately affect test or tester. If you just have to experiment I would advise against it and contacting them to see what their warranty policy would be if negative results occurred to your equipment. The test/reset buttons are the surest way to test GFCI and AFCI if these work/terminate power you will have a hard time convincing any electrician or homeowner that the receptacle or breaker is in some way defective and needs to be replaced.

I'd explain in the report and bring it to the client's attention, then let them take the trip to the "Dark Side of the vortex of no return." Common sense plays a role at some point. I would think all main means of egress would be solid core, at the least, and rated the same as the jamb, at the most. I don't think the jamb would deform from fire/heat and impede egress before the hollow core unit vaporized, but I may be wrong.

Mike, That's a bummer about your ankle. Hope it heals soon. Elevate, ice, and TLC from momma is what's in order. Thanks again for the links, I think I snagged the Mag the last time you posted it, because I see it's already bookmarked. I'll BM for myself and pass on the coolmetal to the client. The client says he's dead set on painting. What can I say? Thanks again,
-
Thanks guys! SW is what I suggested to the client for product and referrals. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some specific info that they may require before proceeding. Their painter wasn't very forthcoming with his prep or finish material info. I suggested they contact another painter to furnish all info up front for their own research and peace of mind. I think the guy was going to use the $25.00 a 5 from the local Habitat overstock store. Bought some for a rent house and wound up having to recoat with REAL paint. I think the stuff we sprayed was way old or had been frozen, seperated/streaked on the walls as it was drying. Thanks again,

Iââ¬â¢d like information/opinions on painting a new anodized aluminum standing seam roof. Is there a special preperation and application protocol for painting aluminum roofing panels? Is a special paint required? Thanks in advance,

The rationale from the builders side. "If I can get away with the wall receptacle to cover the wall placement codes * no more than 6'... or any space that is 2' or more in width...* then in my mind I have done my job." Why put it at the counter when it will cover dual purposes at the wall. The ones I like are the wet bar receptacles inside the doored cabinet instead of at the counter top to omit GFCI. Cheap builder had a wife and 2 girlfriends. Livin' on the edge! 1-4 omitted receptacles per house buys the builder a new girlfriend for a few nights.

Terry, They are all OK the day after they are removed and replaced with new equipment. Here is a link I pass on to clients after I have documented the conditions of their particular panel. http://www.inspect-ny.com/fpe/fpepanel.htm

Grounding of equipment and bonding of all permanent installed metallic items in and around pools is always a concern of mine. What do you think and say about metal downspout within 4' and metal guttering/roof drip edge within 8'6" as depicted? Download Attachment: Metalgutterpool.JPG 94.93 KB
