  3. It appears as though the Flir E 60 is the direct competitor, going after TIi32 market. From what I can tell they both have detector pixels/size of 320X240, picture in picture, etc. I do see that the Flir E 60 comes with more features. I also see that Flir is having a special with purchase, before June 30, they include 8G I pod to blue tooth your stuff to. The Flir E 60 is a grand cheaper, I just obtained a quote for an E 60 for 7K total, including tax, shipping, etc.
  4. I wonder if they had ice dam issues and figured that they needed increased ventilation, more than the passive vents. Then someone thought they needed to bring air in for the furnace. Then one thing led to another and there ya go.
  5. I have seen natural draft water heaters back draft with only the bath fans turned on.
  6. Sometimes I will suggest a radon system to help control soil gasses and evaporative moisture. I have seen folks tap into the concrete block foundation, install an inline fan to help dry foundation walls. I was surprised but that actually worked pretty well.
  7. He (seller) did not have a pre inspection. This inspection apparently came from a buyer of a few months ago. The agent was also the dual agent in that transaction. The agent tried to get the current buyer, my client, to use that previous report saying that it was just inspected. When my client wanted an inspection anyway the realtor told him to use "her guy". To my clients credit he went home, thought about it and the phrase "my guy" did not set well. He then went on the internet and found me. This is the short version, there were other things that happened during this transaction that my client did not feel that was kosher.
  8. Inspected a home yesterday and was met at the door by the owner who said the home was just inspected and everything was fixed. To his credit, he went and pulled out receipts for radon mitigation, double tap in the breaker panel, etc. This is just a small example of what I found. Oh did I mention the inspector is a realtor for the group that has the listing. The homeowner said that he gave a copy of the previous report to the agent to give to prospective buyers. Unbelievable. 9. I did that as well. Looked, smelled, tasted like smoke alarm. Pushed button and all !@#$ broke loose. Phone rang, I answered it knowing who it was told her what was going on, inspecting the home. I can hear them laughing in the background and I told them I will still be here when the cavalry comes. Sure 'nuff, police and fire came through the door laughing and making fun of me. [:-monkeyd
  10. I want to get one and ride around Wal Mart with it.
  11. They really like the word Torrance, counted 20 of them before I blanked out.
  12. One should glob on a bunch of polyurethane caulk, but never use silicone. Correct? Saw duct tape the other day. Just one of the many uses. [:-monkeyd Pleeeaaase tell me I win.
  13. I guess the commercials are right, Direct TV does have the most satisfied customers.
  14. Well, in my 16 years of home inspecting I have never had the need to measure such a thing. Now as an energy rater I could possibly see the use for one. I use the fan flow meter from Energy Conservatory (looks like a dish pan with holes in it) and my DG700. Don't use it for home inspections, use it for my RESNET/BPI audits. Before that I used the hand/tissue method, did not know Holmes did it as well, glad I am smart like him.

  16. Thanks for the info. I had questioned the the whole thing, I thought I was not seeing something.
  17. I have a client that is selling his home in another state and moving here. His buyer's inspector called out the S-Trap below. My client wants to know if it is something worth fighting. He writes "my understanding is if they have a trap arm length greater than 2 pipe diameters between the p-trap and vertical limb, then they really aren't S traps. The pipe diameter in the p-trap is 1.5 inches. The length of the trap arm is 3.5 inches. I believe the other inspector is right in that it is an S trap and should be fixed and what the client is talking about is trap arm lengths to vent. I just need some clarification/feedback before I answer. Thanks. Click to Enlarge 25.38 KB Click to Enlarge 32.5 KB

  19. Took the test today, kick in the shorts, I passed though. I took the Krigger course through his company Saturn. Then was accepted into Wisconsin Focus on Energy Program for hands on and the test. One question was, I believe, if a building uses 58,500000 BTU's annually, to heat with electric resistance, how much would it cost annually if a KWh was 13 cents? I purchased a blower door through Minneapolis, already had thermal. I bought the Fyrite Insight combustion gas analyzer, I love that thing. Have to figure out some marketing. Thank you for the information and feedback. [:-monkeyd
  20. Thanks for the information, I have that book and have read it several times. The math seems to get me especially that @#$% triangle[:-monkeyd I am having trouble with the ARI website, there must be an age limit when it comes to looking up equipment because I am unable to make it work. Another is figuring out C, n, p and R. It gets a little confusin at times.
  21. Been gone lately studying for the RESNET exam on Monday. Has anyone taken it lately, if so, how did it go and what material did you find most helpful? Were there very many math questions on it? That triangle is my enemy [:-slaphap Thanks for the help/info.
  22. I received a call one time while on an inspection. The client asked if I had references, she is an attorney, I said sure. Then I handed the phone to my customer who gave me a great reference. [:-monkeyd
  23. I just watched that video through our LG unit on the Sony Bravia with surround. I am traumatized and will never be the same again. [:-monkeyd[:-monkeyd

  25. I have an I pod. I purchased the Nike plus system. This has a sensor that goes on your shoe and the other sensor goes on your I pod. It tracks miles ran, calories burned, per minute times, etc. When you open your I tunes, or plug your I pod into your computer Nike plus uploads your workout the the Nike website. This site is pretty cool, you can graphically see your runs, total calories, etc. There is a character called a Mini that reacts to your activity. Don't run for awhile, he plays paddle ball and talks smack. Show consistent activity and he is break dancing, jumping hurdles and congratulating you. Google Nike Plus and see what it can do?[:-party]
