  1. I've seen quite a few of these and attended a DCA seminar on them. This is a great system as long as the installation is correct. The biggest problem comes after the walls are up. The framers have no idea what is required when the joists run parallel with the walls. Download the installation booklet from the web site and look at page 29. Blocking is required along this area. I did a bank owned house where the blocking was missing, the wall bowed in and surprisingly, the bank fixed it. If I was building a house, I'd use this system.

  8. Has anyone seen possible asbestos in a light fixture? To be honest, it looks light drywall except for the peeling bottom edge. Click to Enlarge 32.63?KB Click to Enlarge 35.39 KB

  10. Here in the lovely Garden State, the anticipated snow level is 6 inches; so the vent termination must be 18 inches above the ground or roof. Download Attachment: snowlevel nj.pdf 41.85 KB
  11. Hey Neal; Do you mention the lack of an air scoop? I got a call back once because of air lock and no heat on the 2nd floor. Sears came out an told my client an air scoop is required so I got the call back. Ever since then, I note the lack of one.
  12. Here's so things I include just for informational purposes: 'The heating system has multiple zones; this also means there are zones valves present. These valves open & close to allow (hot) water to flow thru a specific zone. While all zone valves were tested, you must be aware these valves do wear out and replacement should be considered a maintenance issue.' 'There is no air scoop installed on this hot water system. Although not required, an air scoop is a good upgrade to eliminate air in the pipes. Air in the pipes makes the system noisy and can create air lock. You should consider having an air scoop installed to help eliminate noise.'
  13. It's probably the test plug (filled with air) they use to test a sanitary line. Unscrew the clean-out, insert the plug, fill it with air and there you go! When the test is completed, let the air out and pull the plug.
  14. My guess is they left a cap on the vent pipe.

    Overhang

To be honest, this particular roof was about 3 weeks old. I'm more concerned about wind uplift and tearing the shingles off.

    Overhang

I'm pretty sure the normal overhang is 3/4 to 1 inch. Does anyone have that on paper? Click to Enlarge 51.44 KB

  19. Different towns have different CCO requirements. Morris Township & Summit are 2 that I know of that conduct more stringent inspections. Who is doing your inspection; is it a 'building code inspector' or is it a 'code inspector'. I know of one town who hired the retired chief of police to conduct 'code inspections'. If it's the building code inspector, your options are to go the the construction official and talk to him/her OR call the DCA 609- 984-7609. Tell them your situation and they should be able to lead you in the right direction. (by the way, the former chief of police "failed" a CCO inspection because of failing steel posts in a basement; he then proceeded to hand the RE a contractors card who just happened to be his son) The town shall remain nameless.

  23. As Bill says, it is copper. The staples did penetrate the 5/4 strips in the attic. Here's a photo of the house; it was used in an ad for Lincoln! If you look closely, you can see the build-up of leafs on both sides in those flat areas. Click to Enlarge 38.87 KB
