  1. Hey Steve, can I borrow that Mastercard?
  2. I sent the photo to the chimney guy I recommend; here is his reply- There were several purposes for grates in chimneys in attic areas. Pending time of repairs or alterations to the home it was for one of the following: 1 attic venting. Prior to ridge and soffit venting, abandoned chimney cavities were utilized. 2. Central heating. There were circumstances where inactive chimney spaces were used for heat delivery. 3. Related to both 1 and 2, balloon framed homes sometimes had a center vent to induce natural convection throughout the house.
  3. No evidence of body parts inside. Click to Enlarge 58.41 KB Bill, I'm going back tomorrow for the radon; I'll check it out and the owners son is supposed to have some info for me.
  4. Summit, near the hospital. 12 bedrooms (including the 3 servants bedrooms) 7 baths, 11 fireplaces. Clay tile roof. This beauty must have been the toast of the town way back when. The realtor said she has the listing from when it was sold back in 1950 (stated 'recent total renovation'). Pre-listing inspection.
  5. What came first, the gutter or the brick? How the hell did they get the gutter behind the brick?
  6. Bill, Looking at the photos, what do you think the material is that they wrapped the boiler with (I'm supposed to get the paperwork from the owner). The reason I'm asking is they also wrapped the 'vent connector' with it. Click to Enlarge 41.38 KB
  7. I'm told about 1902. While lacking in maintenance, and some strange doings, the house was a real beauty.
  8. 110 year old house with 11 fireplaces. All three chimneys had these grills in the attic. Click to Enlarge 70.62 KB

  10. Check out this beauty and the size of the TPR. Anyway, the water heater cold water supply is connected to a pipe that exits the Taco multi coil valve? Has anyone ever seen this before? 11. Man walks into the doctor’s office with two black eyes and an 8 iron wrapped around his neck. Doc asks ‘how did that happen?’ Playing golf with my wife was the reply. What? Yeah; seems my wife hooked her tee shot out of bounds into a cow pasture. We both went looking for her ball when I saw a white spot on one of the cow’s rump. I slowly walked over to the cow, lifted the cows tail and sure enough, a golf ball was stuck in the cows ass. While holding up the tail, I shouted over to my wife; “Honey, this looks likes yoursâ€
  12. I spoke with the attorney about a year ago. He stated the suit was settled out of court and the settlement is 'sealed'. Go figure. (Bill's link goes nowhere)
  13. I know the feeder cables should be approximately the same size (length). In the photo above one is looped around so it's about 8-10 inches longer. Does 'the same length' mean exactly that or is the 8-10 inches OK?
  14. Yeah it is. I e-mailed him today asking for more info on the association I am required to join. It's called The Real Estate Services Purchasing Association'. I haven't been able to find any info. It's kinda strange; the E & O premium is LESS then the membership dues. Hopefully I'll get more (good) info.
  15. I'm still doing research on the Inspector Pro Insurance program. On their website they have listings for state requirements. under the NY heading they have this- New York * Uses InterNACHI's exam for licensing. * GL insurance requirement Is that a true statement? I'm just trying to figure out if this company is any way tied into P.T.'s circus. Doesn't the 'house' with a check mark look familiar? http://inspectorpro.citadelus.com/progr ... lights.php
  16. You are correct; A typo on wikipedia... Flo & Eddie (Mark Volman, "Flo" aka "Phosforecent Leech" and Howard Kaylan, "Eddie") are a comedic musical duo. The two were the original founding members of the Top 40 rock group the Turtles. After the Turtles dissolved, Volman and Kaylan first joined the Mothers of Invention as "Phlorescent Leech & Eddie". Due to contractual restrictions made early in their career, Mark and Howard were prevented from using the name "The Turtles", as well as their own names in a musical context.[1] The Phlorescent Leech and Eddie were actual nicknames of two of the Mothers of Invention road crew.
  17. I just got an e-mail about upcoming shows. It seems The Phosforecent Leech & Eddie will be special guests at SOME upcoming concerts. Flo & Eddie http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flo_%26_Eddie

    Return pump

Yeah, but at least they are making me think... Thank you gentlemen, I just got off the phone with ITT and they confirmed Bill's statement about an auto feed.

    Return pump

Yesterday's house had a 2005 steam boiler installed. There was a separate, older floor mounted pump that the owner stated was installed to help the return condensate/water get back to the boiler. This is a first for me- anything I should know about this or tell my client. The client was a little concerned about the warning labels. Click to Enlarge 40.92 KB
  20. And if there's no roof; carry an umbrella.
  21. Is your broker Ben Z? I don't know what to do, I've been with Lexington for 15 years but this is saving me a ton. Haven't seen Z plays Z yet; I know NMB, Ike Willis, and Steve Via have been recent guests; I heard Dweezil can play a pretty good guitar too. Maybe next time they play the Borgota in AC. Several years ago at the House of Blues in A/C they had the quilt that was made from all the panties that were thrown on stage; I missed that by a day.
  22. Is anyone familiar with 'The Real Estate Services Purchasing Association'? Their main office is in Chicago. My broker obtained a quote that saved me substantial money, but it seems I have to join the 'association'. Any info or input is appreciated. http://inspectorpro.citadelus.com/progr ... lights.php
  23. This goes into every report on the last page. Part of it was swiped from someone here (sorry, can't remember who I can give the credit to) Your questions; Ask all the questions you want or need to and I'll do my best to answer them. All I ask of you is that you read the entire report. You can call me tomorrow, next week or even next year! Your final walk-thru before closing is your last chance to view the house without any furniture or stored items. Conduct a diligent walk-through (don't let anyone or anything rush you!). Turn on all faucets, flush all toilets, run the dishwasher (and clothes washer & dryer if part of the transaction) and examine all walls & floors. You should also bring a digital camera just in case there are conditions that have changed since the inspection was conducted. 24. "It's really easy and supportable to simply let the code decide this stuff. Why does anyone really want to apply their own "logic" to the question?" The above is a quote from the 'I don't understand' thread by Kurt. This is in response to the guys who do not call the missing weep holes and flashing out just because they have never seen a problem. In my opinion, it's the same here. The code and BIA calls for weepholes and flashing. At the very least you need to say they are required by code and the BIA.
  25. Last week a 70 yr old guy in Jefferson fell off his roof when clearing snow; he had to get flown out because of his injuries. I can just see it now, people climbing up onto the roofs clearing snow because of this- (newspaper article in part) “Once you start getting over a foot, that’s where you are beyond the design of most roofs,â€
