  1. Why does that remind me of a custom water heater pan?
  2. Good job! I hope the tenants get a nice bite of landlord!
  3. Ummm... NACHI is an organization, and according to their website, you belong to them: http://www.nachi.org/memberlist/featured/c.htm
  4. I don't do onsite reports, as a rule. In a very few instances, I have done them. I do always carry a portable printer-just in case! I liked Glenn's take. I think it really depends on the person. For me, off site report generation is done for several reasons; 1. I'm more focused at my home office than at someone's kitchen table. And I have my resources at hand. 2. I was a "one-man-show" for several years, and off-site report generation allowed me to multi-task (answer calls, emails, eat lunch, etc) 3. I don't like being rushed 4. I save a ton of money on paper and ink because I send 99% of my reports via email. 5. I'm much more comfortable doing a report in my pink bunny slippers.
  5. I'm a 120 kinda guy.
  6. Mike & Yung, Thanks for the e-card! Merry Christmas to all from the Prickett Family! Download Attachment: DSC08566.JPG 156.65 KB
  7. I've got dozens of pictures exactly like that. The 30 lb felt was run too long, which is sloppy, but no big deal. The fasteners penetrating the rolled roofing are a no-no.
  8. Last December I did almost every day. I thought my phone had been disconnected, my office manager ran away with the milkman, and my picture was hung in all the local post offices! Then in January, the phone magically started ringing again!
  9. Seattle was #65. In our market, we've seen about 50% growth in the last two years. A 3% drop in 07' is to be expected. This is my busiest December ever, so somebody must be buyin'.
  10. Codes tend to apply more to life safety issues. That debacle would fall under construction standards.
  11. In a moment of Christmas spirit induced poor judgement, I attempted to order the toy FLOAM after seeing my kids go ga-ga over the commercial. Floam is a Pla-doughesque modeling clay thingy. I figured it would be a cool crafty thing that all my kids could play with over the winter break. I went to their website where they had the product on sale for $19.95. You could get an additional 2 tubs for $5, so I figured what the heck. Shipping guaranteed before Christmas was another $4.95 so I bit on that. Then the "tools" were another $10. Ok, for about 40 bucks, I could have a gift from Santa that all the kids would enjoy. I checked the appropriate boxes, gave my CC, and hit OK. Usually you'll get a preview of your order to verify that you got everything right, but not here! The next screen showed my order was being processed for $80 They double ordered the original product and charged $25 shipping! I hit their customer service button and all it was was a non-toll free number. I called about 15 times and the line was busy. On the 16th shot it rang, I waited on hold for 45 minutes, only to be told that I just called the warehouse and there was nothing I could do. I promptly called my CC company and they could only put a "hold" on my card so nothing would go through. Then we "googled" FLOAM, which I should've done in the first place. What a POS! http://www.epinions.com/kifm-Toys-All-R ... y_~reviews I should've known better when I saw the "AS SEEN ON TV" logo. I'm a stupid, stupid, man...
  12. I'd go so far as glueing the two layers together w/ construction adhesive. Can't hurt if another hurricane hits. Make sure you stagger your joints when you go over the old stuff. When you re-nail, make sure the nails are long enough for a good bite into the rafters(min. 8d) and you might even want to go with ring shanked for extra bite.
  13. One story or two?
  14. A couple of thoughts: 1. The outlets may be switched. 2. Look for a GFCI outlet (with reset button) in the garage.
  15. I think that says alot for "regional marketing". What works in Rochchester MN, may not work in Phoenix, AZ. Marketing is definitely more of an art than science.
  16. Email me, and I'll give you my cell #. I'd obviously prefer to get paid to inspect it[] but at the very least, I'll give you some pointers. I've inspected Del Webb/Pulte, Taylor Woodrow, Hacienda, Wm. Lyons, Centex, Rich. American, and many others in Surprise. The city's building dept. is overworked, and nobody checks the roof or attics.
  17. The main thing my Sure-test found (that my "night-light" missed) was loose grounds. The 3 lite night light tester always said they were ok, and the Sure-test showed them as bad. The problem I have with Suretest, in general, is it's frailty. I went through 3 in 2 1/2 years. Just too expensive and unreliable for my taste.
  18. I just registered. I couldn't resist going to see how much Kurt and Jimmy have aged, while I've stayed young and pretty! I also signed up for the IRC training, but cannot find the dates of the training anywhere. Makes it difficult to book my flight and room. Anyone know when it starts?
  19. I experimented with sending Realtors very useful information via email. I emailed 400 agents, once a month for 4 months. Maintenance tips, checklists for getting their client's home ready for an inspection, etc. The ONLY feedback I got was asking to be removed from the list. I agree w/ Scott.
  20. FYI- the technical term for bath sinks is "lavatories" (only meant to bust Kurt's stones!) Here's the story I heard (relating only to cultured marble lavatories) The cultured marble industry always had a very difficult time with overflow quality control. There was a percentage that leaked no matter what they did. It was determined that there is no "official" requirement to have an overflow, so they just stopped drilling the hole for the overflow! I like to call that "value engineering". If you look at the underside of cultured marble lavatories, from around 00' to 03', you'll see that the mold for the sink still has the overflow there, just no hole. After 03' there was retooling of the molds and the overflow was eliminated.
  21. Mike, Monte, et al, I appreciate the help, but I still can't find a specific reference for exposure time. The link Mike offered said most felts are 60-90 days, but I really can't quote that, it's more anecdotal than specific. Monte- I've gone as far as finding new rolls and peeling off the label, but there's no reference to exposure time. I will likely have to buy something from ASTM, but I'm not sure what.
  22. Thanks for trying, but the product you're linking to is Grace Ice & Water Shield. I'm looking at 30LB felt. Mike, I googled every combo I could think of and nothing addresses it. I'm amazed that a product that is so widely used (and misused) has so little public information!
  23. Geez... Nobody?????
  24. Ya got me droolin'! I'm a sucker for technology!
