  1. I always mention that these things can go at any time and should be replaced before they do. Click to Enlarge 31.46 KB

  3. I bucked up and got my son and I a place to stay right in the middle of Kirkwood Ski area once. It was pretty cold that night. Perhaps 15F or so. In the morning my son's stove, with the screw on bottles, wouldn't even light. Dad's stupid white gas stove worked very well.[:-party] Click to Enlarge 49.69 KB
  4. It probably came with a bag of parts someone left them. Had to go somewhere. They were pretty close.

  7. Thanks guys. Just got back from a long walk.
  8. State Park it was. I think Brice in Utah. Good info on the bark.
  9. Click to Enlarge 17.56 KB I'm not supposed to lift more than 10lbs so I'm pretty weak up top. I've been able to walk and ride a stationary bike. A little while back I also got some stomach exercises to do. The doc at one time said something like I could do crawl spaces at the one month mark if my family depended on my income, but he didn't recommend it? The guy is nuts. I think that the crawl space under the doc's house has a wine cellar in the corner. 2-22 I go in for final CT scan and hopefully get rid of the brace for good. I tried to help look over a house for my brother-in-law and I couldn't even look under the garbage disposal with the brace on. I did take folks advice and read a bunch of installation manuals, which was good. My wife is an independent claims adjuster and a few years ago I got the license for it so she could quit the place she was working for and work out of our home. I've been doing a bunch of CE's to keep the license lately. My neurologist Dr. is 150 miles away in Redding, CA. and there is pretty much no getting a hold of him for questions. So I write, things like can I start doing this and that kind of exercises. I get no response. He probably thinks, "hey old man just retire". I probably have the wimpiest back fracture one can get and instead of being happy and thankful about that I feel like I have to live in a PVC pipe. Other than that it is a blast. I haven't figured out what the blessing is yet either? There has pretty much been no pain as long as I treat myself like I have a glass spine, which I do. P.S. that is not me in the photo, only my spirit. Good one though.

  12. Per pg 21 looks like all the J-channel is just for hooking up the rest of the vinyl trim, which really isn't much of a flashing. More just for connecting vinyl siding and trim. All the real flashing is the aluminum or vinyl trim sheet behind it. So back at my kids house, it's just Mr. Handi trying to do some sort of flashing thing with some kind of vinyl thing on a window that was never flashed right to begin with. And now the flash thing catches water and delivers it to the interior. I recommend they give the landlord a heads up.
  13. Vertical in the first and horizontal in the second. Nice photos.
  14. Thanks Jim, No special treatment to the rebar to stop rusting. I suppose the rebar rusted because it was too close to the exterior.
  15. So, that's not even the right piece to be used for that horizontal section. It's just directing water into the siding.
  16. I knew this guy once who was following a really slow car at night. There came a straight section that was double yellowed, but good viability so he passed. Halfway through the pass there was a cop on the left facing the opposite direction. The cop spun around. The road was windy along a river and there were oncoming cars. The guy just put the pedal down while the cop couldn't pass and was waiting for a Captain Kirk moment. As the guy went around a long left hand sweeper with the hill on his left he made a quick U-turn and came back oncoming as the cop flew around the corner. The guy ditched out for about 10 minutes then got back on route. Another 5 minutes down the road the cop was coming back, saw him, spun around, and pulled him over. After a 5 minute tongue lashing and the guy saying little the cop said he knew it was him cause he is driving the same blue car. At that point the guy said his car wasn't blue, it was green. The cop looked baffled as he pointed his flashlight on it again, proceeded with two more minutes of tongue lashing and left without writing a ticket. The guy had a teal colored car! I'm amazed I can remember that guys story so well.
  17. My son was up at his girlfriends house and the sliding glass door was leaking from its top into the interior. He sent me these photos. Click to Enlarge 90.9 KB Click to Enlarge 61.58 KB

  19. I saw it on a remodel once where the tile on the sill was sloped towards the window. I always carry around a marble with me for just such an occasion. P.S. it's finally raining out here on the NW coast of CA.

  22. Thanks everyone. I wasn't sure what it was, but just looked up Hubbell twist lock receptacles and there it all was. I didn't twist its innerds, and should have.[:-paperba

  25. Whoa, I got a job the other day. Anyway I was up on the top floor and the air flow was pretty weak. Down in the crawl space the duct was partially disconnected. I was a momentary hero. Click to Enlarge 67.52 KB
