  1. Thanks y'all
  2. last night I read as many sites Google brought up as possible. -Certainteed has had many defective shingles around the time of this installation. I do not know the brand of these shingles. -poor ventilation causes curling. This attic had cellulose blown in which I've found to be mostly DIY around here. I did not notice very many Styrofoam chutes coming from the soffits. -rushed installation is a possibility. This was a production home.... I too have installed many a shingle, none to carefully at times, and never had this happen to any of mine. Would the result of racking show up years after the install? The thing is that only one of the ends are curled (racking) but the "delaminated" end suggests defect. I don't think it's ventilation because the curling is limited to one end of most shingles [?] I have given these possible scenarios to the client but would really like to know what gives. signed, befuddled.
  3. a little more info; I gently raised one of the tabs to find that the tar had in fact stuck and when this curl happened it pulled the wear layer off in the area of the last "dash of tar".
  4. it's a 2007 and I had to scrape loose mortar out just to see that far in. I suspect the no flashing and full of mortar SOP [:-thumbd]

  6. does anyone know the cause of this?? This is a 5 year old roof with solid truss and osb structure below with adequate ventilation. Click to Enlarge 57.28 KB
  7. It's vinyl, take a look at pic #1 of the OP. You can see the lock joint visible between every other course. The problem is WE know how to install it correctly but the installers and builders either don't know or don't care...[:-thumbd]
  8. 21 might mean mm which would=3/4" id mip? I guess my question would be, Is 3/4" thinwall (EMT?) conduit suitable or should it be rigid conduit?
  9. this article mentions a hollow grounding electrode but nothing about gauge. http://www.nachi.org/grounding-electrodes.htm like you, I would think it hinky and probably only a few ft deep [:-thumbd]
  10. wouldn't it be required to be safety glass or is this one "grandfathered in"?
  11. page 21 has z flashing depicted. I don't see any in the pics...
  12. reply to inspection report as follows- "Well it ain't been a problem since uncle Bubba installated the durn thing"[:-paperba
  13. if that's not vinyl, that's a perfect looking tile instal!
  14. Are you sure this isn't just camo like on a sub periscope? [:-bigeyes
  15. [:-thumbu]ditto the spray foam. We install showers and tubs in basements often where the floor is out of level (like it should be). We install the pan level, screw it to the studs and inject the foam from the perimeter. I comes out solid every time like the mortar install but much easier.
  16. this looks familiar....
  17. how can people be so disgusting?
  18. The one on the back door faces the same way![:-weepn] They'll need to go to the hardware store and get a left hand latch instead A similar story; Two blondes installing siding, their blonde boss shows up and sees a pile of discarded nails. The boss asked "What's with the pile of nails?" One of the installers replied "Those had the points on the wrong end!" The boss then stated "Don't throw them away, those are for the other side of the house." It could happen.
  19. John, is this on a new construction or have occupants been living with these for a few years? I agree with Tom on this one, what else got overlooked by the builder??? Shouldn't, at the very least, the building supervisor caught this?
  20. "I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss" Sir Elton John must have gotten inspiration from a roof like this.
  21. Never mind that- what'd it taste like? I'll ask my work buddy Jim, he got a little splashed on him on accident. Gross[:-yuck]
  22. I know what it's for. In my OP I said the other sinks had different versions under them and that this one is home made. Also mentioned it didn't work because of its flex hoses which don't work well on regular drains either. I was just sharing. Sorry to be a bother.
  23. I found this on Monday. The home had been converted into a denture manufacturing lab. There were 11 sinks in the home and each sink had a different version of this trap. This particular trap did not stop sewer gas from entering the building because it was home made. I think they got tired of paying for the actual traps and decided to make one out of a 5 gallon bucket and some vacuum hose. They didn't realize that the gunk they wanted to trap just stuck in those hoses and that if the trap wasn't completely full of water, sewer gas came in through the drain. We are remodeling the home for office use and had the opportunity to cut into the drains these were hooked up to. Removal of the drains showed that these either didn't work or they weren't cleaned often enough. The gray sludge in the drain lines smelled HORRIBLE! Click to Enlarge 27.92 KB
  24. I've looked around and can't find an answer to my query. A client I just did a home inspection for on the house they're buying asked me to make a repair he couldn't make himself on the house they were selling. While I was there he asked me this, "Is there a standard on what should make the OHD opener reverse?" We used a brick and the door did not reverse. We used my shoulder and the door did reverse. We used a 12" tall box of diapers and the door did reverse. What is to be expected? I always use my shoulder to test downforce.
  25. I couldn't read it past the first line. I just skipped to the pro's responses.
