  1. the inlaws have these in their 1961 ranch they had built.
  2. It's a dumb idea: It's costly; it's inconvenient; and in the end it always looks like crap. Click to Enlarge 75.67 KB Click to Enlarge 63.96 KB I don't think these two look so bad. If I say so myself. In both cases the homeowners loved the neighborhood and only spent about $75,000.
  3. the first picture looks like the "OSB" crap I see much of around Indy. Click to Enlarge 67.21 KB The second does look like MDF. Do they really use that somewhere?
  4. no cut valley! saves on blades.[:-thumbd]
  5. driving around town last week I was at a traffic light with a roofers van. It was a new van with one of those picture murals that cover the entire van. The picture depicted several men installing shingles DIRECTLY over 1x6 planking. I wish I had time to whip out my camera. Uhhhhh, tar paper much?
  6. my 20 year old daughter can!
  7. when we bought our house in 1991 we had the 1920's chimney swept and the guy used this formula for figuring out how much "repair" we needed. Age of chimney x $10= your cost. He used the same formula @ my brothers house a few weeks later. Neither of us bit.
  8. just a note concerning coil stock and treated lumber. On the boxes of coil stock I've used it says not to use it in contact with treated lumber. I have seen coil stock rotted because of the chemicals in the lumber. Is there another type of coil stock?
  9. apparently not bx cable? Jim, in scenario #2, wouldn't you have to run a 2 conductor with ground back to the panel to make that work? (Just for the GFCI receptacle) I pulled an outlet yesterday in the course of remodeling that had a jumper from the neutral side to the ground screw!?!
  10. In a friends crawlspace, the PB main had split mid line and had been gushing for quite a while. They called me to say their sump pump discharge was leaking and he had patched it with duct tape. The only thing that kept it from spraying everywhere was it being located under the vapor barrier.
  11. good luck finding that cover plate!
  12. it's to remove sand from your shoes or feet when you come in!
  13. I inspected a double a few years ago where they installed the units 10' off the ground on each side of the house. It was a two story.
  14. built in clothes wringer
  15. well then like you and Bill K have said no experience and probably crap. there's no way to tell if they've run it up under the shingles far enough and the wrinkles/ bubbles are going to wear faster. I bet Holmes would tear it out just to make sure it's wrong. LOL
  16. You and my dad are the only two people I've ever "heard" use the word daub. He would especially like your solution, I think!
  17. epdm. It looks like there's a factory seam (to make continuous rolls) in a couple of your pics. We've installed several of these on low slope areas. It comes in 60 mil and 45mil. 45 mil is what you can get from Menards and is actually much harder to work with as well as not as durable. We've always used contact cement to instal the stuff and never had any recalls. Did it appear to be glued down? From the pics it's hard to tell if there are wrinkles or those are "stains" from the shingle.
  18. glad I could finally help some one here!
  19. on another thread it was decided that the dinosaurs came first.[:-bigmout[:-banghea
  20. a little more searching I found this http://www.viega.net/xbcr/en-us/IMPF520 ... ed0609.pdf www.viega.net/xbcr/en-us/IMPF520709Combined0609.pdf if the links don't work, google this; pureflow water systems installation manual page 12 (quick view) I learn more everyday just checking these posts!
  21. I've seen opaque white, rust, red, white and blue. http://www.pexsupply.com/pex?gclid=CLG_ ... Kgodkmz6aQ the difference seems to be the added oxygen barrier for heat apps.
  22. well, that's twice as bad as I have seen!
  23. "plumber" LOL I don't have a picture but, have you seen where a plumber has cut completely through a floor joist so the toilet would go where he wanted? It's typical for that joist to be holding up the toilet and a cast iron tub.DUH!
  24. this is what I saw today! It seems like they were afraid to open the panel though-it wasn't too bad. Click to Enlarge 70.74 KB
