"Fix" for a fused neutral?

Old service disconnect now feeding a pair of panels in a non-conforming 1924 duplex (basement turned into a separate apartment). I think it is preferable to the original fused neutral but it hardly looks like the kosher repair(?).

Probably doesn't matter as it is likely the whole shebang will get moved or removed due to the service drop crossing the flat roof, but what would you normally expect to see bridging the neutral fuse holder?

I've also seen where someone's taking a lenght of copper tubing, hammered it flat, and slipped it between the fuse holders.

In a 120V circuit, it is common around here (BOS) to see fused-neutral 'oil burner emergency disconnects' that have oversized fuses on the 15A circuit... You'll see 15A fuse on the hot side, 30 on the neutral..

I just tell folks to trash it and upgrade it for the obvious reasons..

I found a 'cut-out' (porcelain block, exposed terminals) the other day with 2-15A fuses..

Ive seen several really old electrical services around here over the years with screw in fuse for nuetral on each circuit, not very smart/safe in my book anyway [:-yuck]

As far as that mess they used to bypass the fuse Id say its even worse than what they were trying to repair! [:-censore
