Robert Jones
Please help me with my laziness. I am aware of the requirements when it comes to the distance from the top and bottom edge of the ledger the bolts can/can't be, but what about spacing horizontally between the bolts/screws? Is their a maximum distance between them? In this pic you can also see that they aren't staggered. Click to Enlarge 34.55 KB
John Dirks Jr
Some general guidelines here but your locality my have specific requirements. The spacing in the picture looks to be inadequate. http://www.decks.com/deckbuilding/Ledge ... _Fasteners
ejager
That spacing looks a little wide to me. I suppose it does depend on the size of the fastener as well. Download Attachment: deck ledgers.pdf 330.74 KB
Chad Fabry
In the absence of stamped drawings, as an AHJ, I require two, evenly spaced, 1/2" washered lags or bolts per joist bay staggered in the top and bottom third of the ledger. Alternatively, an appropriate number of Ledgerlok (or equivalent) rated screws is acceptable. As a home inspector, I quote the article that Egbert posted.
