Jeff Beck
From today's inspection. Client has young children. House has a finished basement where the children will play. One side of the stairs leading to the basement is open for the final five stairs. Click to Enlarge 27.28 KB This appears to me to be a safety issue, where a kid could fall. Am I being too picky? Or should I recommend that a railing be installed? Thanks! Jeff
Phillip
I would recommend a railing to be installed
Brandon Whitmore
I'd start recommending a guard once the drop off meets the 30" mark.
Jim Morrison
I'd recommend a railing for sure.
RobC
It doesn't appear...it is I'd recommend a guardrail at the unprotected side and extending the handrail the full length of the staircase. Did you measure the first riser? It looks high to me.
Jeff Beck
Thanks everyone! Rob, I did measure the bottom riser and it's 7-3/8" I think that the picture makes it look higher. Jeff
