  1. It is still under construction but figured I would see what members thought of the overall design premise.http://www.elliotthomeinspection.com/ [:-paperba
  2. Jerry I have working on a totally revamped version of my website for the last month. You must feel like one of the contestants on American Idol standing in front of Simon. That being said let me put my two cents in. My first impression of your website was I did not get your homepage but one of the links. I also feel like some of the others that it reads like a negative political ad and we only hurt our industry by tearing each other apart. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Sound familiar. Don't worry you'll have a chance to get even with my comments in the near future. I guess it's always easier to be the critic. (Now that I think about if that sounds a little like home inspection.)
  3. Sounds like a creative idea Jim,but will the flashing help support those shingles enough to keep them from cracking?
  4. Here we go, how many problems can you count.Had to be dragged away from this one. Download Attachment: kb1.jpg 105.2 KB Download Attachment: kb2.jpg 96.55 KB Download Attachment: kb.jpg 89.4 KB
  5. Unfortunately in the chicagoland area you will find dishwashers and disposal units when retrofit are simply BXed to the closest junction box.Thats how installation companys do 10 plus stops a day to keep on schedule.

  8. Can anyone help me find out if this hvac unit is rated to be installed on its side? Brand name is kenmore by international comfort products corp.Model NTC6125KJG1. I was not able to find them listed on the web. Even a good link to research this would be appreciated thanks to anyone who can help. P.s it appears to have been built in 2001.
  9. Thank you for the posts. I have been away from my laptop due due Valentines day obligations. Paul I received an E-mail from my local chicago N>A>C>H>I chapter regarding your upcoming NCE event on March 3.Not sure if I can make it,but I will look for future chances to attend one of your events.
  10. The wood looks moist.Any chance its some sort of mineral deposit coming from chemicals in the wood.
  11. Thank you kyle. That gives me peace of mind. Its only my second pro inspection and I have enough to worry about as it is.I suppose the main panel will have 3 rows instead of 2 as far as over current protection goes.Unless of coarse there is a second service entrance. I"ll have my hands full just looking at my first stone foundation.
  12. I am inspecting a 150 year old farm house with what I"m told is 3 phase wiring. Can anyone tell me anyhing to look for when doing this one, as it is not somthing I"m familiar with. Links would help[:-dunce]
  13. like steven said what did they attach the hangers with? Galvinized?
  14. Yeah I agree, walked up and noticed all the patch work .They messed up the brick on yours when they retrofit that decorative iron security bar on the first floor front left side.
  15. I was in the neighborhood and drove by today. the bldg next door was interesting with what looked like terra cotta columns. It must be nice on the inside with rent at 1,800 for a 2 bedoom.I"m guessing landlord pays heat.
  16. Jesse did you happen to check the voltage level inside the box?. The reason I ask is in home reference book by Carson Dunlop end of section 4 electrical chapter 5.7 you'll find a section on low voltage lighting controls. It states that in a small percentage of homes is a special wiring system was installed to control light fixtures this system was used primarily in the 1950s and 1960s and employ 12 or 24 V wiring instead of the more common 120 V wiring to control light fixtures it was employed in order to provide additional safety and convenience. This system is somewhat complex and uses a low voltage transformer and a number of relays it did not become popular although it may still be found in some houses. However you stated this was a new model house?
  17. Makes one realise why one stays in chicago. I spent 10 years in that area.I"m guessing the drawings were painted on to a cloth canvas like material that would usualy protect old plaster walls.what material is covering the what looks like old steam pipes,as bestos you can guess.
  18. It is always about defense.Dome team playing in chicago winter.Check the weather report. Bears17 aints14
  19. Yes since on the inside it would be to the right of the panel.the lug with moisture is also on that side or am I following wrong?
  20. Randy I noticed that window on the right inside of the breaker panel. I assume you checked into that having any effect on the panel?
  21. I used to do appliance installs for SEARS and none of us ever wasted time placing an extra shutoff for the dishwasher. That would have cost extra and was never requested.
  22. They have always been allowed in the bathroom as long as they are not hooked up.YUK! YUK![:-graduat
  23. Even if it works ,what good is it for the other extreme. COLD
  24. It looks to me as if it is older than the boiler and was jury rigged from something else to serve as a cast iron reducer.most likely serves no other purpose.
  25. WOW! What a fantastic link Mike. It looks like I found another way to spend my time, other than bugging neighborhood construction workers.
