  1. Now I'm in the DUH category. I know about this concern, but isn't that "fill your glass w/ toilet TANK water, which is potable water?" This wouldn't backsiphon toiler BOWL water, would it? How could it? Kurt, Now that you're gonna start looking in the tanks, you'll be amazed at what is growing in some of them...mold, scum like you wouldn't believe. THAT is what you'd be drinking with a cross-connection. And, you'll be amazed at how many "short" fill valves are installed by homeowners when the original valve fails, creating a cross-connection. Also, anyone with thoughts on those tanks where the low-profile white fill valve is mounted to the bottom of the tank? If that ain't a cross-connection, what is?

Buler...thought I told you to stay the frick out of MY suburbs.
  3. Tom, Coarses on Report Writing, and just basic writing, can also be quite a help.
  4. Paul...me too, but I also find the "newer" SureTest I have especially handy in older homes, circa 1920 and before. Boot-leg grounds, 20%+ voltage drops, you name it. Sure glad those prior Sure-Test posts convinced me to buy a new "valuable" tool.
  5. Well, I'm gonna disagree strongly, vehemently with Kurt. Why, well just 'cause....that's why. So there, take that! NAh Nah Da Boo Boo! Love ya, Mit.
  6. Chris...I know you're looking for a code, but what about just saying someting like "Recommend adding another light switch. One having to walk across a dark room to find a light switch presents a safety/tripping/falling hazard."?
  7. A bit off topic, and think this was talked about before, but my first Sure-Test acted erratically....had to push buttoms a lot of times before it responded, didn't turn on each and every time, etc. If yours is doing the same, Sure-Test sent me a new one, right away, no problemo at all. A good company in my opinion. Just found a bootleg ground with it the other day in a "totally re-wired home"...nope, still active Knob & Tube in the wall. Why I waited ten years to buy one just shows how stupid I can be.
  8. Kurt....you got one of those camera's?!....would you mind referrals?
  9. As an aside, notice now many heaters are not 40 or 50 gallon, but 39.3, or 48.8 gallon sizes?...I think this relates to the old 1/4 pounder McD's lawsuit.
  10. Chris...you forgot to mention Dan's expertise at inspecting electrical. He's simply awesome.
  11. and I have more experience in electrical than most home inspectors do. ________________________________________________ Apparenty not, at least in regards to inspectin.
  12. Just saw some real shiny copper inside a home and wondered the exact same thing...why still so shiny? How weird is that? Thanks for the info. Also just paid a bill of $54.99 with...get this, check #5499...can you stand it! Also, if you didn't just hit the wrong key, it's reglet, not riglet.
  13. Brian...and how about the goofy "minimum" ampacity supplies specified, for example, 31.2 amperes??? This is seen quite often.
  14. Let's see...in a basement, if you have mold and radon, can you see it crawling and glowing when the lights are off?
  15. Jeeeesh!!! Next thing you know, people will be scared of mold!
  16. As a side note, there technically isn't "cold", just different degrees of heat.
  17. (No I really don't pinpoint gas leaks with a match.) Dennis [/quote Why not? I do on a regular basis, esp. when my Tiff batteries are low. If you think about it, you do EXACTLY the same thing every time you light a fireplace gas log starter, or every time you light a gas cooktop. Grandpa taught me well.
  18. If one is adept @ single family for buyers, the move to multi-family & small commercial is relatively simple. Kurt...shush now, dag-gone-it!
  19. Doug....interesting terminology..."molested wiring"......Officer, I saw the whole thing.
  20. Marvintle...perhaps during your period of patients. you might find some English classes would help you in your report writing. Writing reports is a big part of the business. GL
  21. Hello Terry... You raise an interesting point...MOST of the three-prong receptacles in this home were not grounded (a recently remodeled home). But I checked the GFCI's diligently, and they showed proper grounding, proper wiring, etc. using the SureTest. No false ground, no missing grounding...but comments made about SureTest not tripping GFCI because of lack of grounding (or poor grounding), regardless of SureTest other readings, make most sense. Thanks.
  22. No, (but thanks), that's why I mentioned when using trip button on receptacle, the receptacle was "dead"..if line-load was reversed, receptacle would still be energized when "tripped".
  23. The test button on the GFCI receptacle tripped the receptacle...receptacle was dead. SureTest GFCI testing would not trip the receptacle (it did trip other GFCI's in the home, though). Subject receptacle showed correct wiring by SureTest. Wazupp???
  24. Mark...where does the stray current come from that's in the earth that shocks farmers cows?...seriously. And, sorry I mis-read your post and that I ASSumed you meant such earth stray current.
  25. Mark Cramer...you make good sense...it is VERY common, and this "stray" earth current is ONE explanation. However, on more than a few occasions, I (& Seller's electrician in one instance), noted the current, then disconnected the panel ground, and voila!...no more current to the water pipe. None,..zippola. But like you say, other times current remains, so must be coming from the earth. Doug...I too apologize for the other board comments, though I don't remember them. But knowing me, I most certainly contributed to the lack of humor. By the by, I use a SPERRY Model DSA 600 (digital readout).... & thanks for your input.
