  1. I wanna see a pic facing 180 degrees. I don't see any foot prints in the snow, or your ladder for that matter[:-dev3]
  2. It' damned close to being scrap metal.
  3. They patented a protocol, that's it. The fact that I own and use an IR cam in no way infringes on their patents, and they have no authority to force me to use their protocols. This will only become a *big* problem if one or more of our licensing bodies determines that the Homesafe protocol is the end-all be-all of IR for home inspectors. It'll never happen. Homesafe, come and get me [%|]
  4. Your welcome. See you there[]
  5. Can you climb a ladder with 'em on or do you have enough snow to just step up onto the roof?
  6. I anyone is interested, there is a free 203K webinar for existing and prospective consultants next Thursday. The link to the registration page is at: http://www.hud.gov/offices/hsg/sfh/events/events.cfm
  7. IIRC, when I bought my house the consultant got $1100. Around half for the initial consult and scope of work docs, and the balance equally divided over 4 or 5 draws. That was 12 years ago. Brokerages were really pushing them then, but they fell out of fashion for a while. If the program is gonna make a come back because of all the foreclosures out there, then I need to be on the roster. Randy, who do you market to, the lenders?
  8. That's what I want to do but it's not clear if a DBA can own a vehicle, it's just an assumed name. If I need another vehicle for personal use I've got that covered: the '07 Outback for my biz, an '09 Forester for the wife's biz, and '79 CJ5 for personal use. Do you think the IRS would notice that the Jeep only has a bikini top?
  9. We should establish a 'swear jar' and fine anyone that complains the site is running slow.
  10. The quality of our content takes up some serious band width. I'm sure the association forums are much faster.
  11. Civil engineers are the worst. I think the extra education is to guaranty that they don't know anything. I worked for one once who insisted on building an adjustable table for a huge sissor arm saw so we could cut common angles on D logs for gable ends. He spent a week bolting index plates to the floor and drilling holes, then moving them when the angles were wrong, then building screw jacks to accomodate the floor that was less than level. When I asked him why we couldn't just use the pivoting base on the saw to set whatever angle we wanted, he insisted that it would never work.
  12. I like that. If the client has questions they are directed to you to provide answers, not the State or Association.
  13. So the person who answered didn't know?[]
  14. I reference them and will provide a copies on request. My initial thought was to provide a link to them at the DOS web site, but I'd rather not hot link my client to the State complaint form. I don't anticipate any major problems, but if some one wants to be a jerk I think they should have to do their own legwork.
  15. For starters, he should have applied his stucco before the aluminum soffit, I doubt tradition intended it to terminate against aluminum panels. Then he should have hired a 'certified' tin knocker because that metal work is lousy. Gibsonguy might be right about this being a retrofit installation, it looks like they peeled off the siding and plastered right up to the old trim.
  16. While trying to locate the current NY mileage rate I stumbled upon a chart for allowable ownership and operating expenses for transportation. http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/art ... 23,00.html The table outlines the allowable ownership and operating expenses for sole proprietors, converting the total cost of ownership to an operating expense. I thought my company would have to lease a vehicle in order to expense it in that fashion. Is anyone familiar with this tax rule? I know I should ask my accountant, but if she had known about it I'd be doing it all ready. I want a new accountant, but the wife started her business first so I'm stuck with the ninny she picked. How do the brethren handle their vehicle expenses? Currently I personally own my inspectormobile/daily driver and deduct my work related mileage. Is that what most of you do, or are your vehicles company property? I know I'm in the minority operating as a DBA, but since there is no legal separation between business and personal assets doesn't that mean my ride is already the 'company car'?
  17. At the point that it begins buzzing and arcing[:-graduat
  18. You need a bushing, not a clamp. like one of these: http://www.centurytool.net/100385_Robin ... 100385.htm
  19. It might have been if that ugly half brick projected 'casing' were detailed flatter with a proper soldier course for the arch. Then again we don't get any real shakers here.
  20. I can trump that. There's one in my neighborhood like that, but it's on stilts.[:-banghea
  21. Who has the Charlie Foxtrot stamp? This place really deserves it. I don't think it's gonna do you any good with this place, but the MVMA has a best practices installation guide available on their site, both HTML and PDF. I picked up a hard copy at the IBS a few weeks ago and they said they'd be happy to mail copies to anyone who wants one. http://www.masonryveneer.org/
  22. The pictures are far too small, but here's what I've got so far: Pic 1. There is inadequate working space in front of the sub, there may not be enough for the other panel either. Pic 2. There are several cable clamps missing, most notably on the sub panel feeders. There are also several lugs on the neutral buses where multiple wires terminate, I can't tell how many because the pics are too small to count them all. Pic 3. The bottom of the sub panel is contaminated with something, drywall dust maybe? I can't tell for sure, did I mention the pics are too small? I only see two feeders in the sub, and what might be a grounding electrode at the bottom center of the accessory bus. I don't see a proper return path for the neutrals or the equipment grounds. I'm amazed any of the circuits in that sub work at all. If I'm wrong blame it on the small pics.
  23. I'm sorry to hear of your demise. Electrocution = execution via electricity. Thought you'd want to know[:-dev3]
  24. Yup. John, you need to learn some shorthand. When we create product codes at the day job we delete vowels so that codes fit within very tight character limits yet remain decipherable while staying grouped with similar products. Like this: washer supply hoses = wshr hs sup - I know 'u' is a vowel, but 'sup' makes more sense than 'spply' washer drain hoses = wshr hs drn washer drain pan = wshr drn pan If your database is searchable by command, all of these comments will appear in the exact opposite order they are here (alphabetical), and are further sorted by common part by putting the 'hose' before it's function. By your numerical method all the '1s' will be grouped, then '2s', etc. Editing comments, or finding them for that matter, would totally suck. Also remember that spaces are characters, you can get more descriptive by omitting them. Jerry, turning your auto correct dictionary into a database is a brilliant idea that I fully intend to steal.
  25. You little delinquent!
