  1. Looks more like a purlin to me.
  2. I have noticed this a few times. A slice in a PVC sump pump discharge line, below the float level. It seems like an odd place for a plumber to have made an accidental cut. Does anyone know why this would have been done? Click to Enlarge 54.08 KB
  3. Actually the gas container is empty and has never been used. Just thought it was a good picture. Click to Enlarge 33.59 KB
  4. That'll probably help you regain interest in this forum![:-party]
  5. Microsoft Sans Serif 8 for the narrative text.
  6. Jeff, There are some peel and stick EPDM products that would work okay, but if it's H2O shield than it is wrong because it is not UV stable. From the photos, the right-hand side looks like EPDM to me, but the left-hand side looks more like an emulsified coating.
  7. Metal will set it off. It's good to remember this when checking areas around a metal drywall corner bead.
  8. ...but he just wouldn't listen. How would you write this up? Be careful, the homeowner (pictured) thinks he knows it all[] Click to Enlarge 39.44 KB
  9. Looks like Romex.
  10. Jerry - It's good to see you change your ways, from the loser avatars (Cubs, Blago & Roland). Way to go![:-thumbu]
  11. Yes, for a curb mounted skylight like the one shown.
  12. I actually see bad flashing kit installations frequently, which is confusing to me since I know from personal experience that if you follow the damn install instructions they are water-tight. Velux has some good info and installation diagrams on their website.
  13. Are you running MS Windows? MS has a free back-up utility that will perform full, incremental and differential back-up's. Assuming that you don't already see it in All Programs>Accessories>System Tools folder you can either install it from your windows install CD, or go to their website and find it there.
  14. Matthew, If you are see alligatoring it probably the asphalt below the UV coating, and not the coating itself. Thus no need to re-apply.
  15. Gurgling sounds are symptomatic of a lack of proper venting, not necessarily of s-traps in particular. (Though even genuine s-traps were seldom well vented.) - Jim Katen, Oregon That, of course, was better said.
  16. You have an S-Trap there. Aren't gurgling sounds symptomatic with S-Traps?

  19. Happy Birthday Chad!
  20. It is also used in BUR, CTP & Mod Bit roofing systems as an overlay board over existing roof systems, wood decks and iscocyanurate insulation board. It is pressed into 1/2" or 3/4" (typically) and comes in 2' x 4' sheets. It is brown and does not hold up well when it gets wet. They also make tapered roof systems from it.
  21. We don't get cold enough around here to see that sort of thing, but I'd guess that the coloration of the "stalagmites" is due to the inclusion of combustion byproducts from previous use as a woodburning fireplace chimney (resins, etc) in the condensation. My thoughts as well. I have seen it with wood burners...and darker. The house was only 40 years old and I don't believe it's fuel source was ever wood or oil. Just natural gas. My (revised) guess is the color was due to the rust on the rain cap, which you can't really see in the photo.
  22. A "hole less" X-gallon water heater will always produce X-gallons of heated water. Right? So how could it all of a sudden be producing a smaller quantity of hot water? Maybe it is all of a sudden producing X-gallons of cooler water. I'm guessing that would mean a bad thermostat if the heating elements tested fine.
  23. Well Walter....you tried.
  24. They make an excellent roof, however it is not warrantied for residential application. The "best roof you can buy" is the one that is properly designed (and let's not forget installed) for the structure.
  25. Carlisle does not make mod bit.
