  1. It's still an ungrounded outlet. No, not really. GFCI outlets will function properly with only a hot and netural but it's still an ungrounded outlet.
  2. That's really, really ugly too!
  3. Call a few of your local reps for the drives Joe and have them run ROI. I can't answer those questions.
  4. It's always worked for me.... Great to have you posting again Douglas.
  5. Even with a single point return Marc you still have to stay within good engineering practice (although, as I type this, I have to laugh at all the wrong systems I see working for many a year - return air open to the entire basement for example - the second floor isn't to comfy however.).
  6. Just getting around to addressing this. Couldn't be farther from the truth. Why not stick a 100x100 duct in the master bedroom? How about 30" round r/a ducts in all living areas. One thing for sure, you'd have very little Delta P. There is a method to the madness. I have to admit though - residential is much more "fly by the seat of the pants" than commercial.
  7. New Trane Duculator arrived today [:-party]. Based on 500 CFM per ton (your 3 ton system) and at .05 SP drop you would need a 25x12 duct or 20" round. 8" round is good for 160 CFM and a 6" round is good for 75 CFM based on .05 SP. With an 8" and 6" you are really undersized Mike.
  8. I. Marc Smack down.
  9. I believe the OP just has a 3-way lighted switch Marc. A lighted switch doesn't need three terminals.
  10. Sounds like a 3-way switch. Two light switches contol one light for example. Google "how does a lighted switch work" to gain a better understanding.

  12. Accept credit cards. The company I use, Moneris, makes it easy to get this setup. I'm sure there are many other companies out there that help with this as well. Email the contract to them. If they don't have email you can fax to Office Max, UPS box stores etc.
  13. You bet. The next best thing however is sharing which they do without reservation.
  14. I went to a "Tequila Festival" (a big party in the park) in high school. I downed 3/4 bottle of El Toro and have never been so sick in my life. I believe you about removing oil. I'm also sure that the regurertation will remove most paint and mold. I'm always on my guard when I run into someone that says "Didn't you go to XYZ high school?" That depends...
  15. Enquiring minds want to know. Recently or during college days? [:-graduat [:-party] [:-yuck]
  16. Call BAC or call your local sales rep and ask them what type of tower it is.
  17. If you have the make and model default to manufacture terminology.
  18. I have no idea whether or not a water cooler would be part of a compliance plan without reading a source/reference document. There is no way to check refrigerant pressures as these small chillers don't have any access valves - much like your refrigerator at home - so there is no way to start a baseline in which to reference. Besides that, just the process of removing a set of gauges from a drinking fountain would most likely make it short on gas (very little refrigerant to start with). Are you creating this plan from scratch? You can always email me at hlisATwindstream.net if you need a quick answer to something or to discuss further.
  19. What are you trying to accomplish Joe? Two cooling towers denotes two physically separate towers. From another web site: A dual-cell cooling tower consists of two attached towers, each with their own axial fan. Therefore a dual cell cooling tower has two axial fans, while a single cell cooling tower has one. Each manufacture might have a different arrangement for accomplishing the same thing. Do you have a make, model and serial from the tower shown in the picture?
  20. Did someone actually recommend replacement of the refrigerant as part of a "maintenance plan"? That's funny. Refrigerant does not grow weak with age (unlike me). There is absolutely no need to replace it every two years (unless you're trying to drum up business based on false information). Define refrigerant maintenance compliance plan. A sound preventative maintenance plan will extend the life of refrigeration equipment and help prevent costly breakdowns. A maintenance plan for a water cooler however would consist of cleaning the condenser every year (depending on atmosphere) and drinking the water to make sure it is chilled. That's about it. Even if you ignored it most likely it would last long enough to make replacement cheaper than spending labor dollars to PM it.
  21. About the same amount of truth that recommends changing the air in your tires every two years. Nuff said. I'm not sure where you're hearing this stuff but I'd find another source. There is absolutely no truth to these statements. If you stop and think about it how is humidity going to penetrate a refrigerant line that doesn't let refrigerant escape and is under pressure? Moisture can enter the system by sloppy service methods or when a system is out of gas, no low pressure control, and is running in a vacuum. Do you have people at work pulling your leg? I remember when I was a kid, 16-17, and just got a job at an auto parts store selling. One of the old time mechanics came in and asked for a set of muffler bearings for a 61 Rambler (or something akin to it). They all had a good laugh as I was pouring over the books trying to find it.
  22. On some you can pull out the tube bundle but you'd have to see it to be sure. The tubes are rolled in place, to the tube sheet, much like a boiler - you can't just pluck out a tube and plop in a new one.
  23. Can what be completed? The tubes are not meant to be removed. They are fastened to a tube sheet on both ends. You can replace a tube(s) but on something that small replacement would be a better bet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shell_and_ ... _exchanger
  24. When a leak develops, on a low pressure steam system, the boiler will keep flooding out as the city water keeps finding a way back to the boiler. The other method is to shut the steam off, open up the condensate line, and apply city water pressure. If you have water running out of the condensate line, with the steam off, you have a leaker. You can always do an Eddy Current test to measure wall thickness (or lack thereof). On a shell & tube that small 800.00 or so would cover an Eddy Current test. We use to use wooden dowel rod to plug leaking tubes. It was a general rule of thumb that you could plug 10% of the tubes without causing a problem.
  25. Actually Mike senior citizens often use walls, mantles of fireplaces, furniture as a means of steadying themselves as they try and walk. It's quite common. Yep. I do it all the time - especially when I think someone could injure themselves.
