  1. 2005 was the first year that the instructions for Hardiplank specifically required an un-caulked 1/4" gap above horizontal flashing. First printing was in September 05 with an effective date December 05. Maintain a 1/4" clearance between James Hardie products and horizontal flashing (fig. 6). I would probably still check with your local authority, the interesting part of the verbiage in the CPC is "listed relief valve drain tube" and in the Zurn ICC-ES Listing PMG 1039 they don't specifically list it for relief valve drainage. 2010 CA Plumbing Code 608.5 Relief valves located inside a building shall be provided with a drain, not smaller than the relief valve outlet, of galvanized steel, hard-drawn copper piping and fittings, CPVC or listed relief valve drain tube with fittings that will not reduce the internal bore of the pipe or tubing (straight lengths as opposed to coils) and shall extend from the valve to the outside of the building, with the end of the pipe not more than two (2) feet (610 mm) nor less than six (6) inches (152 mm) above ground or the flood level of the area receiving the discharge and pointing downward. Such drains shall be permitted to terminate at other approved locations. Relief valve drains shall not terminate in a building's crawl space.   7. John You basically have two types of plaster, gypsum and cement. Cement plaster is stucco. The Uniform Building Code required weeps back in their 1970 edition predating the requirements of both ASTM C1063 and C926, 1986 and 1981 respectively. If you are inspecting stucco I'd advised you to get both ASTM standards. I think Mike has the Masonry Veneer Manufacturers Association manual to the library, if not, go to their site and download.   9. Mark The only information I've seen is the APA OSB product guide that states that there are exterior rated OSB products. I believe the LP SmartSide products are OSB overlaid with a treated resin paper. The only OSB panels I see used as sheathing are rated Exposure 1.   13. The other way to look at is; not the degree of exposure but is it installed to manufacturers' installation instructions? For that I would let someone else bless the installation.
  14. The JLC article you posted. Middle of the 'Flexible Flashing Specifications' table, rubberized asphalt/aluminum foil...no limitation. Other designs using foil may be limited though. Marc The article was just an overview always stick with manufacturers specs.

  17. Length of UV exposure is product specific. Protecto Wrap standard self-adhered flashing tape states 120 days maximum exposure, while their foil faced self-adhered flashing is rated for one year.   19. CA has amended the IRC/CRC section dealing with freezing. NFPA 13D allows the use of anti-freeze. The IRC (P2904) also allows the system to be designed to NFPA 13D. R313.3.2.3 Freezing areas. Piping shall be protected from freezing as required by the California Plumbing Code. Where sprinklers are required in areas that are subject to freezing, dry-sidewall or dry-pendent sprinklers extending from a nonfreezing area into a freezing area shall be, installed. Where fire sprinkler piping cannot be adequately protected against freezing, the system shall be designed and installed in accordance with NFPA 13D.
  20. Mark if you look at any amount of stucco, you really should have a copy of both C1063 and C926.

NOTE 5—On horizontal ceiling supports or roof soffits protected by a drip edge, gypsum board products shall be permitted to be used as backing for metal base to receive portland cement plaster. 7.1.4 Separation shall be provided where plaster abuts dissimilar construction materials or openings. (See A2.1.4.) (A2.1.4 is for interior plaster.)
  22. ASTM C1063 - 06 1" minimum. 7.11.5 Foundation Weep Screed—Foundation weep screed shall be installed at the bottom of all steel or wood framed exterior walls to receive lath and plaster. Place the bottom edge of the foundation weep screed not less than 1 in. (25 mm) below the joint formed by the foundation and framing. The nose of the screed shall be placed not less than 4 in. (102 mm) above raw earth or 2 in. (51 mm) above paved surfaces. The weather resistive barrier and lath shall entirely cover the vertical attachment flange and terminate at the top edge of the nose or ground flange.

  24. That's most likely a two stage gas system. The half inch copper is higher pressure/volume and the inline regulator steps it down for final use.
