  1. Robertshaw standing pilot gas valves have the hand-stamped 4 digits. The first 2 are the year (that the valve was manufactured).
  2. Rock wool and slag wool are 2 different products. Rock wool is made from molten natural rock. Slag wool is made from molten blast-furnace slag.
  3. Many electricians do it here as well - some I've worked with that are actually quite experienced.
  4. Since polyurethane foam is not non-combustible, the single-wall connector clearance requirement is 6".
  5. The MVMA instructions is for adhered concrete masonry veneer, not stone. Your pictures sure look like it's adhered concrete masonry veneer and not real stone. The cracks don't look like it has anything to do with supports. If it is adhered concrete masonry veneer, think of it as a stucco-coated wall with thin slabs of preformed stucco stuck into it. That and the rules for stucco and the MVMA instructions will likely point to the cause of the cracks.
  6. Well, is the "flue pipe" a vent connector? A B-vent?
  7. Yep. Ground water temps up where you be at are 42-47 degrees. Average GW temps here are 55 degrees. I have a tank that I planned on using for tempering, but never get around to installing it. Happy blizzard John.
  8. I still come across some tempering tanks preceding water heating equipment. They're always in buildings supplied by well water. They also allow sediment to settle out too.
  9. Glue the remote to the wall - problem solved.
  10. Yes, some tankless water heaters have a valve that reduces the flow of water as needed to reach the selected temp. If there is only a single fixture operating, there's a problem. The first thing to check is if the temp is set really high.
  11. Wall box extension ring
  12. The form is 100% Queen Anne.
  13. I don't make stuff up. Click to Enlarge 31.76?KB
  14. This is what hart & Cooley calls it in their installation instructions. In multi-story buildings, a firestop must be provided at every point where the vent passes through a floor or ceiling. These firestops may be provided as indicated in the paragraph above. The current, correct term for what is needed for what's pictured in the OP is fireblocking.
  15. They state their current skylight line can be installed at 0:12, but their flashing kits have a minimum slope.
  16. How low is the slope? You might need an inclined curb kit.
  17. The correct term is fireblocking. It's certainly not expected to stop a serious fire. The intent is to resist the movement of flames, gases, and smoke through concealed spaces. Being concerned about flex ducts would be if penetrating through a required fire-rated assembly.
  18. Joints on copper need to be soldered.
  19. It's "fireblocking" and yes it's needed at those locations, regardless of what type of duct material.
  20. Italianate Built-in gutters or box gutters
  21. I think they were available before the 1880s, but only for one company's train passenger coach, not for residential windows.
  22. US - Pullman manufacturing, Acme Duplex. CA - Caldwell Manufacturing.
  23. Spring tape sash balances. They work just like your retractable tape measure. The spring strengths are matched to the weight of the sash. They are often installed as later replacements to broken ropes from pulley & weight supports. They fit the same mortise as the original pulley. They were manufactured from the mid 1880s. (later installations to that 1860 house). There are 3 manufacturers still producing these devices.
  24. Lead as a pigment in ceramics was very common. It has never been proven that fully vitrified, domestic tableware containing lead significantly increases lead levels in people. For a source of lead poisoning, the glaze would have to be just about gone and acidic foods in contact with the unglazed surface for decades. It's funny that no one brings up the uranium oxide in the glaze of vintage Fiestaware and other ceramics.
  25. Please tell me that's a lawn mower shed and not any type of dwelling.
