  1. Thanks for photos. It looks like a great house and should be fun to work on. Bill and Tom put you on the right path. They are a tad older and know about the historic stuff! 😁 The photos show there is work to be done, so I would carefully consider where to spend my money. Personally I would likely be looking to replace it if possible. If properly installed there would be a thermal benefit that would have to be considered. Tom/Bill remember Z brick? The original formula material expanded when exposed to flame.
  2. Hi Reba, do you have any photos that show a larger area or area around doors and windows? I have never seen Insulbrick like that but then again I haven't seen it all! Looks like your in Pennsylvania so it could be regional.
  3. I re-read the entire thread. Kinda forgotten some of the people that used to hang around here. Good test of my mind/memory.
  4. sorry for the oblique reference. Suitor as in the kid coming to your house to court your daughter and damper as in water sprinkler.
  5. lawn sprinkler or suitor damper?
  6. looks like really old formula caulk/sealer. stuff before greatstuff was on the menu
  7. I am out of the business now, but found Staples to be the best business decision. I bought everything online and did go to the store to look at something before purchase 'tho. I know I am sounding like an "old man" but I finally had to let the numbers do the talking. I was ok until we got to several inspectors and a bigger office. I never did business from home, nights or weekends. It worked for me but maybe not for everyone. I really like your hard copy idea. I think there is a niche market for it. Good Luck!
  8. first off why isn't your inspector answering this question. There is an indication this is a "major" defect. How old is house? is there any indication of movement as a result of this condition? I would not get exercised about this unless there was some indication of abnormal settlement. To be fair - I have little time for people that take your money and tell you to contact a qualified professional. They should have at least explained the ramification(s) of this.
  9. I guess I can ask a stupid question even when I think I know everything. Isn't a 900watt generator a bit small for this application? I have four generators for my use; smallest is 3500 for the barn.
  10. Never did much (none) on circuit boards in furnaces - But I sure am enjoying your adventure! Guess I may be a voyeurer at heart!
  11. Are you in Kansas? It looks like there is a workmanship issue and I would not "approve" it. Simple direct answer is on the shingle bundle paper wrapper or written from the distributer/supplier. Every shingle style and brand has a very thorough written instruction - somewhere. Regardless it looks crappy. Stand your ground.
  12. Was this a new layer or an overlay on old material?
  13. Guess I have been excluded yet again from playing the game. That is ok - I didn't know off the top of my head anyway! This is what Angies List says - https://www.angi.com/articles/electrical-panel-located-10x12-bathroom-does-it-need-be-moved.htm
  14. Thanks Bill. Both are quite good!
  15. can I post this elsewhere? of course with attribution!
  16. Thanks Jim.
  17. Bill - Bill - Bill. 😁
  18. Many farm barns were wired with this stuff during the twenties and thirties. REA was started in 1935 and often used "handy" farmers for installation. Wasn't unusual to see two sets running parallel. Not right, but farmers welcomed "electric" in any form! Bill, do you know what it was commonly called?
  19. Go over to ASHI Facebook page and look at the company hiring in Florida. https://www.facebook.com/groups/ASHI1
  20. Sadly, you didn't read the responses. I was an inspector for four decades and never achieved the level of understanding you seem to have of the profession. Listen to me - it is hard to learn this business. You likely will fail. You do not know anything about it and are smuggly arrogant and ignorant. Good luck.
  21. Unless you have some experience and understanding of the real estate business,, you will fail. Like Bill K, I have mentored many folks and few survive. I recently sold my multi-inspector company after decades of business. Answer the questions i posted above and you may solicit more response. Fundamentally understand who/whom your client/customer is.
  22. Seriously - why do you think you can do the job? Where are you located? To do "it" halfway right cost more than you think. Why would anyone hire you with no experience or background? Don't hitch your star to agents, ask Marc LaBanc. Have you taken the nhie? etc.
  23. not many of us work the Karachi, Sindh, 12311, Pakistan area.
