  1. No doubt, which is one of the reasons why I was curious if anyone else was aware of the term, had remembered it, or still used it. At the time, it was Italian-American construction workers who used the term. They certainly didn't take offense at it. They use mafia blocks as shoes when they want someone to sleep with the fishes.
  2. I get it. Funny stuff. Not for the beavers and muskrats.
  3. Yes you need a new unit. I assume you are in a condo. Go to one of your neighbors, check out how their unit is installed and then you can try again.
  4. $125k
  5. Google Florida Duct Cleaning Scams. There are many articles. Call the BBB for your mom's area. Call a few companies and ask for a quote. It will give you an idea if a fight is worth it.

  9. Call the installer of the Standing Seam roof and tell him to fix it.
  10. Just one other of the many wonders of Pompei. Check out the faucet. Remember, the town was covered in volcanic ash in 79ad. Seems they had some good plumbing back then. Click to Enlarge 124.54 KB
  11. I took this photo a few days ago as I was traveling. Yes, it is a lead pipe. It was used to supply a town in Italy. This was a branch water supply pipe for Pompei. The houses also had clay pipes for indoor toilets throughout the town which led to a large septic field. The town was destroyed in 79ad and excavation began in the 1870's. Quite advanced civilization regarding sanitation and water supply. Click to Enlarge 75.42 KB

    Sad news

Shit happens, but why to nice guys like Steve ?
  13. Pulled out my generator yesterday, filled it with ten gallons, pulled the cord a dozen times with no results. Then I turned the switch on and it started on the first pull. Senior moments happen at the strangest times. But the latest reports put it out to sea.
  14. It will be interesting to see how the storm shutters work through an actual "Sandy" type storm. Great concept.
  15. The home made bottle traps work great.
  16. Drywood Termites Just as the name suggests, drywood termites live in dry wood. Unlike many other termite species, they do not need contact with the soil to survive. This termite species can tolerate dry conditions for long periods of time, since it receives all of the moisture it needs from the wood it consumes and the metabolism it uses to digest the wood. Drywood termites commonly target the wood in your home?s structural timbers, framing, furniture and hardwood flooring. Wood consumed by drywood termites appears very clean and smooth ? as if the wood had been smoothed by sand paper. Drywood termites can infest several different areas in your home, forming separate colonies in your basement, attic or porch. They are usually found in warmer climates that do not reach freezing temperatures in the winter. However, this species of termite can survive in northern climates in homes with air conditioning.
  17. Those tube marks are from termites. The color appears to be grey. Is the house on slab?
  18. I don't think so! No beetle holes in any of your pictures. https://www.google.com/search?q=wood+bo ... Vx3uru4%3D
  19. Google Drywood Termite Frass Carpenter ants sometimes attack termite infestations. The last photo looks like carpenter ant damage except for the frass.
  20. Those weren't cicada killers then. You might want to buy a lottery ticket.
  21. Go to this page. Many wasps look like cicada killers. You may have seen one of the more aggressive types of wasp. Generally the CK lives in the ground and does not attack humans. https://www.google.com/search?q=wasps&c ... 07&bih=865
  22. I wonder what makes the mix that sticky? So nice, and to him, it's just another day at the office.
  23. I don't think that was a typo. But it did give one pause to reflect before clicking.
  24. The failures in our building start at the highest floor. Ocean front with constant breezes. Condo building with no special chemicals or gas. ( Unless you consider burritos on Friday early bird. )
