JeremyDP
Here's an odd plug from an inspection earlier today. I have not had any luck with my internet searches. Probably due to my lack of knowledge on how to describe it. Can anyone tell me about it? Thanks! Click to Enlarge 3.07 KB
John Kogel
If it's in a 50's or older house, it might simply be four places to plug 2-prong cords in. People in those days found ingenious ways to get more out of that one outlet in the room.
JeremyDP
Thanks! The house was built in December of 1959. That is what I was thinking, but didn't want to go with an assumption. I should also mention that the home was winterized, so I was not able to test it. And the paint sealed the face plates to the walls.
Jim Katen
Well, they're not necessarily as old as all that. I remember being able to walk into a hardware store & buy those and I'm a young guy. Around here, they're quite common in '50s & '60 housing stock. JeremyDP
Thanks Jim! Would these be called Quadruple Outlets? And they are ungrounded, right?

Quads is as good as anything, I guess. Yes, they're ungrounded. - Jim Katen, Oregon
Bill Kibbel
I don't know what they're called. Quads is as good as anything, I guess. "4-way" woohoo! They're not unusual here - from late 40s to about the mid 60s.
John Kogel
Best I can come up with is a triplet. We're a conservative bunch out here. Click to Enlarge 49.16 KB
Charlie R
Not necessarily "ungrounded" although there is obviously no place for the "ground" prong of a three prong receptacle. If the receptacle is attached (installed in) to a metal box and wired with armored cable back to the main service panel, which should be grounded, then you may have grounding there.
