    Has anyone heard the term "vinylized synthetic" for roofing materials? I don't have any pics, it was a questioned asked to me. I can't recall ever hearing that term. It is a low sloped roof. "It looks like a vinyl type rolled roof that is painted to look like it has shingles". That's the description I received.

    I think it really depends on where you use the phone. In my area, where I venture into rural areas quite a bit, Verizon is hands down the best as far as coverage goes. If you are near the main freeway or hanging out in downtown Seattle, AT&T etc has good coverage.

    Preston's says 1985. It also says, 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1989. But, since 85 is in the serial number, I would go with 1985.

    Pic was sent to me so I have no background info. Looks like a disconnect of some sort, just have not seen one like this in a residential home. I was told that there is an actual panel below this.     The unit was installed about two years after the home was built. Of course the HVAC company installed it at the shortest route possible to the furnace area. There was a shut off near the unit. And the "pad" was indeed foam with a coating. I called it for repair.

    Funny you mention that Mike. I once compared the Ultrafire flashlight against a candle and the candle won! Ultrafire flashlights are simply terrible.

    Sorry bout this. I am in the middle of a move and have packed my tech reference materials. I have a 1992 gas water heater installed in a bedroom closet. No makeup air being drawn from the exterior, natural venting type. Thanks

    My choice would be mod-bit. Tends to have a pretty good life span and fairly easy repairs when/if needed. I would avoid shingles if it is questionable on the slope.

    Does look like cellulose. Could it have been dumped in there more recently than 1951?

    It was discussed on here a quite a few years back. Just do a search of the forums. If I remember correctly, really haven't had any issues.

    I always tell my clients that I cannot completely determine the amount of damage, if any, that the ants have caused. I will in severe cases recommend that a carpenter/contractor do a more intrusive investigation to determine the extent of the "activity". I once had a home with car decking flooring that had frass falling from the under-floor area and piled up on the crawl space floor, I didn't bother with a recommendation in that case. I simply told my clients that extensive and expensive repairs would be needed.

    Does this composite siding have a name? Looks like some kind of press board type material with a painted finish. Has to be some kind of wood composite as there were a few soft spots. Click to Enlarge 32.6 KB
