  1. Since John called them strings, he might be referring to the ones used in the Andersen builder's model. So, what are those called anyway?
  2. Is that how old man Mayer died recently!
  3. Did you look at any other components? Dates can be printed on gas valves, humidifiers, condensate pumps, on top of the compressor, owner's manual, foil tape on ducts, etc.
  4. If it's green and a truncated tear drop shape, it was built in the eighties, possibly the seventies. I have a chart that indicates that the 5 in the H529 is from 1985. This is from a book called "Identifying the Age of Building Systems and Components" by Mark J. Reinmuller.
  5. Thanks Jim. Yeah I found it now in the NJ codes. Appreciate the help.
  6. Can someone please provide a code reference for the requrement for having a self closing/locking gate for an inground swimming pool? Thanks, Neal
  7. First time I've seen a reducing bushing used for gas piping. Code says no bushings allowed for cast iron piping. Is threaded black iron the same as cast iron? And what's the reason it's not allowed?
  8. Ditto. All of our designs and printing are done by businesses in the local LeTip chapter. The Vista cards I've seen must be the free ones, 'cause they seem flimsy and cheap.
  9. Three feet in front of the equipment, including the meter.
  10. Brad, you'd probably need a couple blower doors to depressurize that house!
  11. A few companies had the termite sniffing dogs around here in the late 80's. With the downturn of the early 90's, they couldn't afford them and got rid of them.
  12. Ken, I would go with what the label diagram says. I would read it as 22 breakers maximum total- for both sections.
  13. She and Kunnen get much of their work through referrals from real estate agents, and they make a special effort to keep those who send the most business their way happy.
  14. This I did not know. Good info, Kyle.
  15. Darren, hope you have a good insurance company. Yeah, incredibly black sky with the storm; not too much lightning over here. Mike, I'll get to work on that...
  16. John, Why wouldn't a ball valve feed work on a hot water boiler? Open it up ocasionally and put a little water in. Low water cutoff is now required for hot water boilers.
  17. Sounds like there is a shut off valve there. I hope there's at least a low water cutoff.
  18. Well, I guess they could just install the air jet type of tub rather than the recirculating type. Seems to be more sanitary anyway.
  19. I see the jacuzzi funk all the time and never even thought about reporting it. I show the buyer and tell them to disinfect, etc. So Barry, what type of comment would be appropriate, and would I report it when I see a few black flecks, or does it have to be a few dozen??
  20. Never heard of the 30% rule, and I don't think it's in the NEC. I see that same situation quite often. Why do you say the service isn't large enough just because of the need for a subpanel?
  21. Terry, absolutely sure. A one pipe steam system.
  22. Well, I've heard 5 or 6 times the amount of heat loss, not condensing 5 times faster.
  23. Well, the backflow preventer is always installed around here on steam and hot water boilers.
  24. Yeah, I do. I say it's good for heating the basement... Lots of CSST secured by zip ties, too. Proudly installed by Patriot Mechanical from Flanders. I should call them up and say WTF.
