  2. Nice try Ervin, your link is gone and now you are locked. New Jersey basement waterproofing company located in California? Yeeeaaaahhhh Riiiiiiiiiight. Try to have a little class why dontcha. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  3. Obviously, it's about time that a few home inspectors wrote a letter to the Chicago Tribune's op-ed page explaining what home inspectors really do, in order to dispell the silliness that will come out of such an indiotic piece. They should all sign it and name their companies. Those who participate will probably see an uptick in business. The early bird gets the worm. Hint, Hint. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  4. No. If they wanted to know why, I'd tell 'em that there is no such distinction in the State of Washington and that if someone claims to be a "licensed" mold guy it only means that the person has a business license - not that the person has any particular competency or special qualifications that make them any more competent to remove mold than one of the guys on a corner holding a cardboard sign asking for money 'cuz he's homeless. 5. Looks like they didn't install any weep screeds. If I were him, I'd be looking at a different house. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  6. Last one I did myself. I went down to the hardware department in the local department store, found the rebuild kit I needed on the shelf, took it home and put it in. The kit cost me about $10 and it took me fifteen minutes to install. The kit even included an allen wrench to disassemble the unit with. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  7. Probably needs a bebuild kit. OT - OF!!! M.
  8. Well, We are the 35th province after all. OT - OF!!! M.
  9. Depends on brand, There are a crap load of them made in the US in Ashland, TN by AO Smith under the AO Smith name of one of it's subsidiary names. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  10. Don't know about ChiTown. Around here a 50 - 60 gallon tank will last about 10 to 15 years if it's properly maintained and a 75 to 80 gallon tank can last nearly twice as long because it goes through fewer heat/cold exchanges. In the abscence of anything indicating a serious problem with the tank, I'd replace that nipple and half of that union for less than $30 in parts before I'd replace a 6-y.o. water heater. 11. Yeah, Purchase an identical union. Replace the rusted nipple and use half of the new union to mate to the other half of the old union that is soldered to the pipe and you're done. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  12. I always use the wet wipes immediately after shaking hands with realtors but never after shaking hands with the clients. [] ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  13. Aw comeon, Les, You know you don't have any more hairs than I do. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  14. Nothing to it. Resize them so that they are under 500 kb and save them as JPG pictures. Make sure the file names don't have any special symbols or spaces in them. Window pics won't work, Window(Pics) wont work. Window_pics will work or WindowPics will work. Go to your post, click the edit tab above it. When it opens up, click on the upload a visible picture tab below this box, go to the photo on your computer, click the upload button and wait. When you get the file successfully uploaded box, close that box and then save the changes to your post and the photos will be there. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  15. Yeah, I'd have to agree with Jim. I've opened up Wesco, Lennox, Coleman and a couple other brands of electric furnace and sometimes I swear the innards of one, and the individual parts, are identical to those I'd seen in another brand. They truly look like they are a steel cabinet lined with insulation and filled with off-the-shelf stuff cobbled together. I've seen a lot of Wesco units here on the left side; I bet you can find an HVAC firm or two that has one or two sitting on their salvage pile. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  16. If you have a vapor barrier properly installed in the crawlspace the humidity level in the crawlspace will be lower than that in the house. Vapor diffusion is going to go from warm/moist to cooler/drier which is the crawlspace. With the barrier on the bottom when the moisture passes through the insulation it hits that cold barrier where it can condense. Of course, I don't know how you do your crawlspaces there in Noo Joysee. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  17. 50 years? Should I be putting on hip waders? I haven't seen very many gas furnaces that can last much longer than 20 to 30 years let alone 50+. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike

  20. Exactly what I was thinking. None of us are; why the heck are we dinking around giving someone advice on a system design? We inspect installed systems; we're not supposed to be designing them are we? ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  21. Yeah, I wish I'd made the trip with you this year. Wife left for Berkina Faso three weeks ago on a mission for her church. I picked her up at the airport a week ago and on Monday she got word that her 93-year old mother is ailing again in Korea; so, off she went to Korea. I put her on the plane Saturday morning. She won't be back for nearly a month, possibly longer. It's me and Peanut. Two bachelors. ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
  22. Hi Kurt, Good to hear from you. I've always called those section leaks too. I think the media between sections oozes a little bit of water over time. As long as it's automatically refilling I don't worry about it unless it's causing issues with other parts of the boiler - steel through rods, pans, etc.. I've looked at 80 year old boilers where that stuff has developed to the point of being something you'd see in an underground cavern 'cuz they'd never bothered to clean the boilers. 23. "They're going to find out today, rather than the day they move in. If you want to look like the asshole, that's fine with me." Jeez, And they say I'm a curmudgeon. [}] ONE TEAM - ONE FIGHT!!! Mike
