  1. Some good news for home inspectors, IF they comply with the law.
  2. It is sad that we have reached a point where we have been trained to believe we can act irresponsibly and the lawyers will find someone to sue so we don't have to live with the physical, and or, financial consequences of our stupidity. (Author unknown)
  3. Uh David, he didn't DO it. It was at one of his inspections.
  4. You spent a half an hour on that!
  5. Owner better hope the copper thieves can't see it from the street!

  9. Can't speak to the veracity without a little research but isn't the fire retardant stuff Orange and the regular stuff yellow. That was my understanding.
  10. I saw this some time ago. If I remember right, the muck fell off his ladder and is/was trying to develop lawsuit material.
  11. I suppose.
  12. Yes.
  13. C'mon John. YOU know it's our fault for pointing out, not the fault of the poor contractor who screwed it up in the first place. After all, it's only a problem BECAUSE we pointed it out. Wouldn't be a problem if we'd just keep our mouth shut! (oh where oh where are those sarcasm emoticons.) -
  14. Think there's much damage in the wall. Tubes and mud all along the base of the wall. Tubes visible in the attic at both sides of the top plate. Click to Enlarge 31.79 KB Click to Enlarge 36.3 KB Click to Enlarge 57.8 KB Click to Enlarge 51.44 KB -
  15. You're such a nitpicky ass, Scott. How do you expect the squirrels and other wildlife (not to mention water) to get into the attic and wall if that's closed off. Geeze!
  16. Just had a slab like our normal ones today. Click to Enlarge 68.5 KB Click to Enlarge 70.41 KB
  17. Dig out footer trenches, pour a footer, build up a stem wall to ground level, fill the area inside the stem wall with gravel, pour the slab. They do paint the block exposed above ground with concrete (parging) but they do such a crappy job that it's falling off and showing the mortar joints within a year or two. That's about how it's done around here.

    What'z-It?

I agree with ceiling heat. Don't know why you'd be running back and forth to the panel. Just crank it up, go on for a while and come back to use your infrared thermometer to see if there's any temperature differential in the ceiling drywall. Around here I usually get readings of about 115 - 120 after cranking em up. -
  20. Concrete crawl space floors are rare here in Kentucky. Almost all are dirt or pea gravel over dirt covered with plastic vapor barrier. -
  21. What difference does it make if water runs down the brick instead of into the gutter.
